Freedom of Life

Ronald Reagan once said, Were blessed with the opportunity to stand for something- for
liberty and freedom and fairness- and these are things worth fighting for, worth devoting our
lives to. The people of this country and all over the world have never been born with freedom.
Martin Luther King Jr., for example, fought for blacks rights through his speech, I Have a
Dream. Speeches have been written, protests have been started in attempt to demand
freedom. Whether black, white, woman, or man, everyone has an obstacle that blocks them
from living a life with the rights to act, speak, or think how they want. Some people argue
whether freedom, for the people of America and around the world, should be demanded and
earned, or given. In the texts, I Have a Dream, March on Washington, and A Eulogy for Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. the authors explain how there is discrimination in the world against
blacks and these people must earn their way to equality and freedom. I believe that freedom
must be demanded. I believe this for three reasons. First, people are already judged when they
are born based on race, so people must fight against this, also some whites dont accept blacks
so they wont allow their freedom. Lastly, people should never accept inequality and need to
fight for freedom until they get it. These actions should never be accepted, but fought against in
attempt to make everyone equal and free.

People need to demand their rights because they dont always get them for free or the
same amount as others. In the speech I Have A Dream, Martin Luther King Jr. stated, We
cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York
believes he has nothing for which to vote (King 50). Martin Luther King Jr. shows that black
people will not stop fighting for their right to vote, and that they shouldnt think of themselves as
not fit to vote. According to the first amendment, everyone, no matter what their skin color is,
has the right to vote. However, Kings words show that the African American population was not
given equal freedom to vote. In the speech I Have A Dream, Martin Luther King Jr. stated, I
have a dream that one day down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having
his lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification...little black boys and black girls
will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers (King 50).
King waits for the day when people of different skin color can do something as simple as
interact with each other. The government should not be able to grant some people freedom and
not others. King understands that people should be able to communicate with whoever they
want to, not just who their governor tells them to. If the government doesnt choose to grant
freedom equally to all of its people, the people need to fight and persevere until they get the
freedom that they deserve.

People are still not free it's so difficult that many people cannot still see that. People are still
discriminated even though it has been years since slavery has been abolished. Charles
Euchner uses a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. in his historic account of King's, I Have A
Dream Speech, But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years
later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of
discrimination.(pg 56) America may say it is a free country, but there is still discrimination and
hate, which needs to be stood up to. In this evidence, let's replace negro with the word people,

But one hundred years later, the people are still not free. One hundred years later, the lives of
the people are still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of
discrimination. This suggests that as a people we are not free. As a result, there must be
freedom. Freedom that allows its people to be truly free.

It is 2016, and everywhere people turn, There are differences. Differences do not only exist
(The constant use of the same word is not very good and can be replaced in order to create a
better sentence) in skin tones, they also show in personalities because of choices that are
made. Human beings have the freedom to dress however they want, speak however they want,
and date whomever they want. In order to have the luxury to do so, they must pay a harsh price.
Nowadays, people who do have the freedom to express their true selves are fighting with their
own self. Homosexuals think twice about coming out of the closet because of their fear of
others judgement. See, they are being held from having true freedom, and it was all because a
lot of people do not agree with their beliefs. (Great sentence that tells the audience that not
everything in life is perfect and without judgement) Humans can sometimes do dumb things
when they do not like something in specific. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke for his race. He was
the public face of all blacks, but sadly, those who disagreed with him took matters into their own
hands, for those of you who are black, considering the evidence there evidently is that there
were white people responsible (Kennedy 25). Kins life was the price of his freedom of
speech. He did and said what he thought to be right and still, there were others out there who
wanted nothing more but his death. Judgement will lead to terrible times. Those who want to be
themselves suffer from others opinions and actions. (Awesome sentence that allows for the
audience to relate with personal experience,) Being different will have harsh consequences.
Weakness to judgments must not lead to failure. In this society, there will always be someone
who does not agree with you, someone who does not think before taking anothers feelings into
consideration. The best way to demand this freedom that is being lost is to speak up. Each
human can speak up and state what they have in their mind, as King states the whirlwinds of
revolt will continue to shake the foundation of our nation until the bright day of justice
reemerges. (I Have A Dream 49) King reminds everyone what their main fighting motivations
are; to have true freedom. If a topic is important enough, fight until you can no longer fight. Fight
until you get what you want. Do not hide from those who disagree with you, because that will
help their motivations. Fight until the land of the "free" is truly free. (Once again, these
sentences state the central idea and the action that one must take in order to make a change.)

Despite the obvious truth, some might argue that freedom should be given because people
should not have to go through so much work to get what they should be given in the first place,
however the people are wrong, freedom should be demanded, because not only do they get the
freedom but they leave an everlasting mark while doing it. The opposing side may have this
position because having freedom should be like having clothes, it is just a normal necessity of
life, it should already be given. The essential point remains that freedom should be demanded
because it grabs attention like what the blacks did, whites struggled for freedom too and needed
it, and even if asked for freedom would not be given anyways. From this, readers should take
away that through all the struggle the whites and blacks alike got the freedom they demanded, if

they had not taken the time to demand it and just sat back and asked for it then picture how life
would be like now, there would not even be freedom.
