Student Fees

Each student hast to pay dues each semester according to the AStA and Studentenwerk
declaration of student fees.

 These student dues are collected for the following purposes

- Social Fee,
- Student Body Fee,
- Matriculation Fee,
- Semester Ticket (required),
- Student ID/Chipcard (one-time fee).

The amount of your student dues depends on your classification (i.e. guest student, student
from Central or Eastern Europe, or international student with stipend). Please consult the
informational brochure Wegweiser zum Studiumbeginn to determine what student dues you
are responsible for. This brochure accompanies your acceptance letter.

Please note:
Because International Bank Transfers can be costly and slow, it is recommended to pay
your student dues in cash following your arrival in Frankfurt(Oder) at the appropriate bank.
The bank will provide you with a receipt, which can be presented in the matriculation office
as proof of payment.

Explanation of Student Dues:

Social and Student Body Fees: Each university has a Studentenwerk , which operates
facilities such as student dormitories and cafeterias. Through matriculation, you
become a member of the student body and are therefore subject to a fee that contributes
to the operation of these facilities.

Student Identification Card: Following your matriculation, you will receive a Student
Identification Card with a chip. This ID Card is issued one time; it serves as your
library card, as well as your transportation ticket until your fourteenth semester.

Semesterticket (transportation ticket): Your Semesterticket allows you to use local

transportation in the German State of Brandenburg and in Berlin. By issuing this
ticket, the European University Viadrina offers its students virtually unlimited usage of
public transportation within Berlin and the State of Brandenburg.

Costs of Living

Depending on which type of accomodation one chooses, monthly rent is usually 200 - 250 €
per month. In addition, monthly food and living expenses generally come to about 200 €. In
total, one needs about 600 € each month to live comfortably.

 Nightlife in Frankfurt(Oder)
- Cinema: 4,50 € - 7 €
- Cocktails: 3,50 € - 6 €
- Beer: 2 € - 3 €
- Juice: 1,50 €

Thanks to the Semesterticket, travelling within Berlin and Brandenburg with public
transportation is free.
