HCMC MUSIC CAMP 2017

PURPOSE
- Contribute to the development classical and jazz music in HCMC
- Create opportunities for students, young artists and teachers of HCMC to
enhance the knowledge and experience
- Introduce the teaching method of famous international and Vietnamese music
professors and artists.
- Pursue the education for young Vietnamese music talents

PROGRAMS OF STUDY

FACULTY
The total number of faculty members is over 20, in which more than 50% are
internationally renowned professors of music and artists. The faculty members
from Vietnam are also the country top-ranked professors and artists. (Faculty list
enclosed).

145 talented students will be invited to attend the Academy:

STUDENTS BENEFIT
Each student will learn 4 master classes (45 minutes each).
Students are allowed to choose the professor but each cannot choose more than 2 master classes with the same
professor.
Each professor will give 32 master classes throughout the music camp.
Jazz students will have 4 chamber music master classes (150 minutes each) and 4 group master classes (90 minutes
each).
Piano students will have the opportunity to attend two seminars by foreign professors.
Accompanists are provided for participants of the Classical Voice Program and Flute Program without extra fee.
The program will also contain supportive courses. All these courses are free and, although recommended, not required.
All participants of the music camp will be graded by Faculty based on the quality of master classes and concerts. There
is the festival competition in the final days. The awarded participants will perform in the Gala Concert on August 8th,
2017 at HCMC Conservatory of Musics Concert Hall.
The tuition fees include accommodations, meals and transportations from the accomodation place to all concerts venue
during the music camp.
All students must strictly follow the rules regarding the accommodations and the academic schedule. If a student fails
to follow these rules, the Board of organizing will have authority to establish the discipline, which included the rights

to not allow this student to complete further participation in this summer camp. All tuition fees will not be refunded for
this case.
If students have a desire to learn extra lessons from the Faculty, please contact the Board of Organizing to register.
The extra fee is 50 USD per lesson.
There will be 8 scholarships available for students based on the audition quality. Each scholarship ranges from 30%
to 50% of the program tuition fees.

ADMISSION DECISIONS AND PROGRAM TUITION FEES

- Successful applicants will be notified by email no later than May 25th, 2017.
- All successful applicants will pay for the program tuition fees no later than June 5th, 2017.
(All applicants who do not submit this fees will be dismissed from the students list).

Other Programs: 330 USD or 7.500.000vn

THE ORGANIZING BOARDS DUTIES

Provide the best accommodations and transportations for students to successfully complete the program at the summer
camp.
Create fair and appropriate academic schedule.
Guarantee that all in-course master classes and activities are strictly accurate to the published schedule. In case of any
schedule change, the Organizing Board has to inform and discuss with students in order to provide the best solution.

Professor Tran Thu Ha graduated from Kiev Conservatory in Ukraine in

1975 and also held a Doctorate degree from Tchaikovsky Conservatory
in Moscow, Russia in 1978.
In many years, Professor Tran Thu Ha was the Director of Hanoi National
Conservatory of Music, nowadays the Vietnam National Academy of
Music. At present, she is holding the position of senior piano professor
at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. She participates in training
many musician generations for the country. Many of her students are
the winners and finalists of several national and international prizes
and awards in Vietnam, Italy, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, and Korea.
Professor Tran Thu Ha received invitations to be in the jury of different
International Piano Competitions.
She is a soloist, chamber music artist, and member of Hanoi Quintet.
Professor Tran Thu Ha has performed many concerts inland and
abroad.

Pianist Le Ho Hai began piano lessons with Peoples Artist Thai Thi Lien

of Meritorious Teacher Tran Thanh Thao.
He continued his professional studies in France with Professors Muriel
Blaisse, Anne-Marie de Lavillon, and the world-renowned pianist
Dsire NKaoua and graduated with First Prize in Piano Performance
of postgraduate in the Cycle de Perfectionnement at the Saint-Maur
National Conservatory of Music and at the Versailles National
Conservatory of Music. He participated in many competitions and won
Second Prize at the Autumn National Music Competition in Vietnam,
1993; First Prize at the Concours Musical Regional dIle-de-France in
Paris, 1999. He is currently a Head of Piano Department at the Ho Chi
Minh City Conservatory of Music.

Warsaw.
Since 2008, he has won 1st prizes in competitions in Australia

century piano awards, and the Lev Vlassenko piano comepetition
in Brisbane. In 2011, he received full scholarship to participate and
perform at the Kirishima International music festival 2011 in Japan,
and perform at the Asia Orchestra Week festival in Tokyo Opera City
Concert Hall in 2012.

was a fine representative of the Viennese musical tradition). In 2007
she got a doctoral degree with highest mark from the Gnessin Russian
Academy of Music under the guidance of Professor Sergei Cenkov.
Eun-Young Joo was a prize-winner at the Erika Chary Foerder
Competition in Vienna (2000), the International Music Festival
Competition Allegro Vivo in Vienna (2001) and the Korean Piano
Society Competition (2002).
At present, she is a lecturer of master courses at the Ho Chi Minh City
Conservatory of Music.

After graduating from P. Tchaikovsky Conservatory (Kiev, Ukraine)

in 1970, Prof. Peoples Artist Trung Kien became a soloist of the
Vietnam National Opera & Ballet Theatre. He played the role Lensky
in P. Tchaikopvskys opera - Evgheni Oneghin, the main actor
in Do Nhuans operas - Co Sao and Nguoi tac tng. He has
performed in many countries such as Russia, Germany, Porland,
China, Mongolia, Laos and Thailand. He is not only a golden voice in
his generations, but also a leading professor of vocal in Vietnam. He
has trained many generations of Vietnamese singers including several
Peoples Artists as Le Dung, Quang Tho, Thu Hien and Trung Duc.
Many young artists who were his students have won the high prizes in
the major professional singing competitions in Vietnam.
Currently, he is senior professor at Vocal Department - Vietnam
National Academy of Music.

Solo Voice Competition in 1983, 1985, 1986; ASEAN Golden Voice
in 1996; Golden Cup - International Arts Festival in Pyongyangm,
North Korea in 1997.
He has articipated in performing in many countries such as: Soviet
Union, China, UK, USA, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Hungary,
Bulgaria, Romania, South Korea, Slovakia, and Laos.
He is currently Vice Director of Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of
Music and Director of Saigon Philharmonic Orchestra.

Siri Torjesen, soprano, has a vital international career, focusing on

music from the 20th Century by many of the leading composers in the
world. She has been soloist with all the leading Norwegian orchestras,
has recorded 15 CDs in Norway and Europe with an international
repertoire. Two of these have won the Norwegian Grammy in recent
years. She has got several solo appearances in Vietnam, both with the
VNSO and the HBSO, in works such as Beethovens 9th Symphony,
Hndels The Messiah, and songs by Norwegian composers Edvard
Grieg and Fartein Valen. She acted as casting director for the opera
in Ho Chi Minh City for their production of The Magic Flute in 2014,
and has given numerous Master Classes at the VNAM in Hanoi and
the Music Conservatory in Saigon, in St Petersburg, Russia, at The
Norwegian State Academy of Music, as well as the Universities in
Trondheim and Troms.

command and maturity, with a broad and singing tone, Polish
born American guitarist Paul Cesarczyk is an active exponent of
contemporary as well as traditional repertoire. He has concertized
widely throughout Europe, the US and Asia. Mr. Cesarczyk is the
recipient of several prestigious awards including the Andres Segovia
Award, the Aaron Copland prize from ASCAP, the Artists International
Award, a Kosciuszko Foundation Prize and an award for artistic
excellence from the NY State Senate. Mr. Cesarczyk was educated
in the prestigious La Guardia High School for the Performing Arts,
received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Manhattan School
of Music under David Starobin and completed a Doctor of Musical
Arts degree with Jerry Willard at the State University of New York at
Stony Brook. Since 2009, Mr. Cesarczyk serves as the department
chair at Mahidol University, College of Music in Thailand.

Band, Quoc Trung Band, Thanh Phuong Band, Mr. Bott Band. He is a
member of Ngu Cung band that won the Best Vietnam Rock Band
Award (Tiger Translate) in 2008.

Elisabeth Melander is an Associate Professor in Vocal Performance at the

Malm Academy of Music - Lund University since 1985. As a pioneer,
she established the first training in Sweden in Jazz and Rock vocals
(modern genres). This led to a ten year period traveling in Sweden and
the Nordic region to conduct different workshops, lectures, and courses
at several music academies, colleges, aesthetic high school programs,
conferences, etc.
She is still engaged as guest teacher at other music academies where
her long experience of voice rehabilitation is one of many subjects.
Besides, Elisabeth has developed a methodology for singing jazz and
rock genre and also her own method of improvisation.

Goran Schelin is a freelance musician since 1980. He has been

playing with numerous musicians on the world, and performed on

Jakob Karlzon, Thomas Franck, Steve Gadd, Bill Stewart, Airto
Moreira among many others in various styles of music.
He was awarded from The Swedish Jazz Federation in 1985 and
2004 as The jazz group of the year and invited to teach at several
jazz institutes in Sweden such as Lund University, Skurup Folkhog

State Philharmonic of Rhineland-Palatinate, Dresden Philharmonic
Orchestra.
Since 2006 Anton has been the Head of Classical Music Program of
the Goethe Zentrum (Meta House) in Phnom Penh. Besides, he is also
a lecturer at the Faculty of Music at the Royal University of Fine Arts
in Phnom Penh.

Nguyen Viet Ha graduated from Vietnam Dance College and currently

teaches Contemporary Dance at Vocational Ballet School of Ho Chi
Minh City since 2016. He performed in many contemporary dance
performances in local and international theaters such as Vietnam
National Opera & Ballet (2006 2010), Konzert und Theater St.Gallen
(Switzerland 2010-2014). He has got many chances to collaborate
with famous artists and choreographers such as Pontus Lidberg, Regin
Chopinot, Luciano Di Natale, Asa Unander Scharin, Anton Lachky,
Helena Rohr, Ikuyo Kuroda, Philippe Lormeau, Lisa Travis, Maura
Donohue, Lars Anderstam, Pham Minh, Bui Ngoc Quan, Philipp Egli,
