BBFC

For our production, the certification will be a

12A. We chose a 12A, as the film will contain
images that a younger audience may find
disturbing. The strong theme of terminal illness
and moderate language throughout our
production will make it not suitable for a
younger audience. Additionally we did not think
it was appropriate to make our certification a 15,
as it did not contain any scenes of imitable
behaviour or strong language. We also chose a
12A certification; as at this point, our audience will fully understand
the situation the main charter is going through therefore having an
emotional connection with her. Whereas a younger audience would
not have fully grasped the concept of death and could not be able to
sympathies with the characters and their position in the film.

What might be expected to be seen in 12A rated film?

In a film with a 12A certification, the audience is expected to see the

following:
Imitable behaviour
Moderate violence
Discrimination
Moderate language

Language
BBFC states that moderate language and some cases of strong
language may be permitted depending who used it and the context it
used in

Drug
The misuse of drugs should be very rarely seen and not be
glamorised. In our short film, the use of drug is apparent in our
production but no illegal drugs were used at any points in our
production.

Theme
Throughout the production the theme of terminal illness is the main
and most apparent theme in our production in general. As the
protagonist has stage 4 leukaemia, the physical state of the character
may be disturbing for a younger audience. In addition, due to these
themes, some may perceive the images of the protagonist receiving
treatment which involves needles, to graphic and the sensitivity of
the topic of cancer will not be suitable for a younger audience.
