TRANSPORTATION PROBLEMS IN COCA-COLA

CHALLENGES

Globally, Coca-Cola did not have a standard process for managing transportation. It
also needed a better understanding of its freight costs to make decisions that would support
goals, including reducing inventory and increasing sales volume each year.

Coca-Cola began scoping the project in late 2009, and it brought Oracle partner Flo
on boards to support the implementation in April 2010. The companies worked together to
design the solution, and Coca-Cola implemented the fully- integrated system, including

electronic data interchange, freight payment, and reporting, by the end of June 2011. The
company continues to bring inbound and outbound carries online.

SOLUTION

The Coca-Cola company selected Oracle Transportation Management and deployed it

to do manage inbound transportation between supplier networks and its plants. To date, five
carriers are fully integrated on the system, and Coca-Cola expects to have 15 of its 30
inbound carries online by the end of the first quarter 2012. The company is concurrently
working to deploy the solution for all outbound transportation providers - about 15 carries
who transport products between the plants and bottling partner and customers, worldwide.

RESULTS

With the solution, cocacola's finance team can audit 100% of the invoices and
approve them in record time. Oracle. Transportation Management also enhances visibility
into freight locations by generating status messages from carriers when they pick up and
deliver products. Coca-Cola has also started to track carrier performance including on time
deliveries and pick ups and deliver products. Coca-Cola has also started to track carrier
performance including on time deliveries and picks ups to enable the company to make more
informed decisions regarding consolidation to improve efficiency and reduce freight costs
supporting vision 2020 goals.

PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE

Most product life cycle are portrayed as bell shaped. This curve is typically divided into four
stages,

Introduction

Growth

Maturity

Decline

Introduction

A period of slow sales growth as the product is introduced in the market. Profits are
nonexistent because of the expenses of product introduction.

Growth

A period of rapid market acceptance and substantial profit improvement.

7|Page
Maturity-

A slowdown in sales growth because the product has achieved acceptance by most potential
buyers. Profit stabilize or decline because of increased competition.

Decline-

Sales show a downward drift and profits erode.

We can use PLC concept to analyze a product category, product form a product or a brand.
Not all products exhibits a bell shaped PLC.

Three common alternative patterns.

A. Growth slump maturity pattern

B. Cycle recycle pattern
C. Scalloped pattern

PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE IN COCA COLA

Coca cola is the greatest example of a product life cycle that has a longest product life
cycle. Since being introduced in 1886, it has spent the majority of its in the maturity stage.
However its sales over recent times lead to the question of whether it has now entered the
decline stage.

Publicly available information about individual brand that the coca cola company sells is
difficult to come by but information about the soft drink industry as a whole can be used to
make some assumption about coca cola sales.

1. Falling soda sales in USA.

2. Falling global sales for coca cola

LEARNING

We learnt that now a day there is a cut thought competition in market. Every thousand of
products are introduced in the market. All the companies should do the maximum marketing,

So the company can prevent their product to reach at declining stage.
