On the Road Day Two 2017

Staff Log June 28, 2017

Grand Tetons

If there was a key word for the day it would be stewards. Visiting the Laurance Rockefeller
Preserve is a reminder to all of us that visit. The responsibility of caring for our environment is
ours. This preserve presents us with the wonders of nature in
all of its glory. From its magnificent peaks
to its forceful streams, one is in awe of its
ability to pull you in.

Every sense is consumed. Aromas from

the surrounding vegetation enticed our
sense of smell, creating a permanent
memory in our being. Crows caw out as
the smaller birds peep and tweet filling the woods with contending sounds. In the distance a
rumble to thunder pounds the sky, as the clouds build and turn into a threatening shade of
gray. Rain ingests us as we run to shelter. Hail spittles from the sky and bounces as it hits the
ground. Nature is letting us know who is really in control.

As we shake off and dry out, our spirits are not dampened. We are surrounded by the splendor
of nature. The pines speak as the winds passes through. The rustling, shimmering aspens are
soothing our souls. They are speaking a language that calls for us to take notice. We are one.
Who will take care? Who are my stewards? You?
