This Week in Metro Manila (July 10 to 16,

2017)
Despite the continuous outpour of rain, Metro Manila is filled with exciting activities this week.
The 3rd Metro Manila Shakedrill will commence on July 14, plus the National Museum of
Anthropology gets an exciting update as it opens its doors facing Rizal Park. Manileos will also
be treated with a spectacle of Japanese films in this months 20th Eigasai/Japanese Film Festival.

Manila Water Company Inc. is currently having a pipelaying activity along Luzon Ave. in Quezon
City affecting roads from Congressional Ave. up to Samat St. The pipelaying activity will last until
October 30, 2017. Construction hours are from Monday to Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and
from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Commuters are advised to be mindful of possible traffic jams during
the said construction.

To keep the Japanese vibe going, moviegoers can visit Kissako Uji Matcha Caf at Kapitolyo, Pasig
after enjoying the films at the Japanese Film Festival. Kissako prides itself in bringing the best
kinds of matcha or finely powdered green tea leaves in the country. Their best-seller,
the matcha latte is a great drink for the rainy weather along with their Horiguchi coffee, a high-
end type of coffee from Tokyo. Aside from matcha-based drinks, they also serve savory dishes,
cakes, and other types of desserts.

The National Museum of Anthropology (NMA) finally opens its doors facing Rizal Park, giving
museum-goers a more spacious entrance where the queue is shorter. The National Museum of
the Philippines (NM) aims to provide safer access to its visitors and to give a majestic experience
upon entering the museum in the Marble Hall and glimpsing the view of Rizal Park. The opening
of the new entryway also signals the first year since NM waived its admission fees.

Along with the opening of the new entrance, NM also launched its Tour with a Curator program
where guests will have a chance to have a free guided educational tour inside the museum by
one of its curators, conservators, or researchers every day at 2:30 PM.

20th EIGASAI/ Japanese Film Festival

As part of the Philippines-Japanese Friendship month, The Japanese Foundation, Manila brings
back EIGASAI or the Japanese Film Festival for its 20th run this July. Twenty Japanese films that
span from drama to horror, anime, and even their newest releases will be played across the
metro until August 29. Aside from the film showing, directors Ryota Nakano of Her Love Boils
Bathwaterand Hirobumi Watanabe of Poolsideman will also be visiting the country for a
directors talk as part of the festival.

Weather advisory
An umbrella is a must for this weeks weather.

The metro will be covered with thunderstorms and a couple of showers all throughout the week.
In the morning, tourists and locals will experience consistent cloudy skies and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, the afternoon weather will be worse due to consistent rain showers all throughout
the week. Commuters are advised to be cautious during unruly weather and to add extra hours
of travel time in case of traffic build-up.

3rd Metro Manila Shakedrill

This week, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), together with the Metro
Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC) and various private and
public sectors, will organize the third Metro Manila Shakedrill from July 14 to July 17.

The exercise is to prepare the city when the feared 7.2-magnitude earthquake, known as The Big
One, hits the country. The government aims to improve the previous years drills and to involve
the private sector and test their emergency plans.

The event will also take place wherever the responders are and not on a pre-planned location to
test the response of each quadrant of the city when emergency strikes.
