WHAT:

Friendship Bowls with Kevin Snipes

Embody Martin Luther King Jr.s spirit of peace, equality, and friendship with handmade
clay bowls in Contemporary Crafts MLK Day workshop

Artists of all skill levels are invited to Contemporary Craft to celebrate MLK Day in a
workshop inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.s I Have a Dream speech. In response to
the iconic speech, participants will be led through image making on small handmade clay
bowls. Kevin Snipes will further engage participants in artistic expression by sharing his
personal experiences as an African-American ceramic artist. Snipes has an extensive
background in ceramic art with his work exhibiting both nationally and internationally.
Snipes will teach participants how to use the pinch technique to form the bowls and then
use underglaze colors to adorn them. The finished pieces will later be glazed and fired,
becoming an indelible reminder of the spirit of peace, equality, and friendship.
