RESEARCH
Dr. Kasim is now focus on tumor biology, stem cell biology and genetic engineering.
Part of her researches had been published in well-known international journals such as
Cancer Research (2013), Nature (2009), PNAS (2011) and Nucleic Acids Research
(2004), and had been cited and reported by Nature, Cell, Nature Reviews Molecular
Cell Biology, Nature Reviews Cancer, Nature Cell Biology and Asahi-Shimbun News
(Japan). She had been granted Doctoral Course Research Fellowship and

K-L Paul Sung, PhD, Fellow of AIMBE (American Institute for Medical and
Biological Engineering), Director of International Collaboration & Exchanges,
UCSD, and Professor of Orthopaedics and Bioengineering, UCSD. Distinguish
Professor, College of Bioengineering at Chongqing University, China. His Research
Interests are Soft Tissue Healing and Regeneration, Cell and Biomaterial (bio-scaffold
and metal alloy) Interactions, and Blood Cell and Cancer Cell Mechanics. He has
published more than 160 peer review papers that included Science, Nature News,
PNAS, J. Clinic Invest., J. Biophysics, Blood, J Cell Biology, J. Cell Science, and
received more than 20 international honors and awards which included Necker
Distinguished Lecture in Paris; Presidential Keynote Lecture in Korean Orthopaedic
Convention; Best paper Award (AMES), Lamport Award (BMES); Bristol-Myers
Squibb/Zimmer Research Award; Whitaker Foundation Research Award; George
Melville Medal (AMES) and Fellow of AIMBE, et al. He has been invited speech

2006-09/2009: Postdoctor at Prof. Rex Tyrrells pharmaceutical/photobiology group,


then senior research associate, Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, University
of Bath, Bath, UK. Specific job: Was the lab manager and participated in guiding
Ph.D. Major project UVA mediated HO-1 induction and the role of Bach1 and Nrf2
in regulation of HO-1 in skin cells; Collaborate with Dr Charareh Pourzand and Chris
Lovell To use novel caged iron chelators with UVA for treatment of psoriasis and
Polymorphism of psoriasis. Co-supervise PhD student with Dr Sofia Pascus to use
encapsulation technique to assemble new drug delivery probe.

Norwich, UK. Specific job: Functional analysis of ADAM15 on tumour cell

Dermatology and Venereology Research Institute of Sichuan. 1994/10 attending doctor
(1991.02-1992.09 With a year in-patient and half year out-patient working experience,
including clinical dermatology demonstrator at the Department of Dermatology, West
China University of Medical Sciences, Chengdu, China.

Research Areas:
(1) Photobiology. To study the solar ultraviolet (UVA and UVB) radiation on cultured
human skin cells and mouse model in order to understand the pathways by which cells
and tissue are damaged by sunlight. To exam heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1),the heme
catabolising enzyme, as a major stress protein in humans, the pathways controlling its
expression and the meaning of its induction in human skin fibroblasts. Bach1/Nrf2-
MafK regulatory network
(2) Clinical dermatology, especially photodermatology. Iron chelation therapy against
UVA-induced damage.
(3) Antioxidant function and application in skin disease.
(4) Cancer related research etc.

I awarded Professorial title in 02/2009. Ive joined the "111 Project" Laboratory of
Biomechanics & Tissue Repair Engineering, at the College of Bioengineering,
Chongqing University (02/2009). I awarded my PhD degree of
pharmacology/photobiology, in Nov. 2001 at the University of Bath, UK; obtained
medical degree from the West China University of Medical Sciences (now Sichuan
University) in June 1987. I had practiced clinical dermatology for 9 years in Chengdu
before I went to UK. I started as the junior Postdoctoral 2002 at Developmental
Neuroscience, Kings College, London after her PhD, followed by senior Postdoctoral,
2004 at the school of Biological Sciences, University of East Anglia, and then June,
2006 at Department of Pharmacology, University of Bath, followed by a spell as
research associate in July, 2007. Ive been co-supervising PhD students and
responsible for the Photobiology Group of Prof. Tyrrell since then and will maintain
this status till the end of 2013.

RESEARCH
Dr. Wu focuses on angiogenesis and tumorigenesis, especially in the fields of the
mechanism of angiogenesis, ischemic cardiovascular diseases and their therapeutic
strategies. Dr. Wu had published more than 20 publications, and part of his works had
been published in Cancer Research, Science Translational Medicine, Molecular
Therapy, ACS Nano, and had been cited and reported by Cell, Developmental Cell,
Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology, NHK Television (Japan), Asahi-Shimbun News
(Japan) and other well-known media. Part of his innovations also had granted 3
Japanese and International Patent. He had been granted University of Tokyo
Outstanding Foreign Student Award and Research Fellowship from Japan Society
For The Promotion of Science.
