State-run Clark Development Corporation (CDC) said on Tuesday, September 1, that it recently
signed a contract for a 20-hectare tourism-related project inside the freeport.

The agreement was signed by CDC president Arthur Tugade and Global Zoo and Theme Park
Alliance Incorporated (GZTPAI) president Romeo Siccion.
The CDC, tasked to manage the freeport and Clark Special Economic Zone, said the project
would include the provision of a haven for wildlife animals and a theme park.
The proposed zoo and theme park will "not be limited to rides, adventurefacilities, and other
recreational and commercial activities," Tugade said in a statement.
The total lease land is 20 hectares and is seen to employ about 140workers in the next 5
years, according to the CDC chief.
Tugade added that soft opening of the project will be next year orwithin 12 months upon the
issuance of occupancy permit by theCDC, along with other permits that must be sought by
GZTPAI from othergovernment and regulatory bodies involved in zoo operations.
GZTPAIs Siccion has a private collection of tigers, some imported species of birds, reptiles,
and other small animals which are in a mini-zoo his company established in San Fernando,
Pampanga.
GZTPAIs Siccion is the president of Zoo World Incorporated, a member of the Philippine Zoos
Association and Southeast Asian Zoos andAquariums.
Siccion said he decided to invest in the freeport because of the sound business climate and
the fast-growing tourism industry.
Tugade last month announced that 3 rms are expanding their operations in the freeport.

services rm La Rose Noire Philippines Incorporated, and hotel operator Midori Hotel and
Casino.

GOLD COAST, Australia Two children had a "miracle" escape when a raft ipped at an
Australian theme park killing 4 adults, police said Wednesday, October 26, as claims emerged
that safety concerns had been raised at Dreamworld last year.
Two women and two men died when two rafts on the Thunder River Rapids ride at the Gold 66%

But a boy and a girl, aged 10 and 12, on the 6-person circular raft survived. Police initially
identi ed them as two girls.

Reports, which police would not con rm, said they were the children of one of the dead
women.

"If we're going to be thankful for anything, I'm thankful for that."
He said it had been "absolutely traumatic" for the children who were now being cared for by
family, as oral tributes were laid outside Australia's largest theme park, which is hugely
popular with domestic and overseas tourists.
Two of those who died were identi ed in local media as Canberra-based brother and sister
Kate Goodchild, 32, and Luke Dorsett, 35, with their mother, who was holidaying with them,
distraught.
"We are just devastated, absolutely devastated, Kim Dorsett told the Brisbane Courier-Mail.
"I have 3 children and have lost two of them my whole family has been wiped out."
Queensland Ambulance o cials said on Tuesday the ride, marketed as a family-friendly thrill,
malfunctioned and Codd stressed a thorough investigation was underway to nd out what
went wrong.
Thirty detectives were at the scene with rafts taken away by a forensic team.
"There will be a broad range of things examined policies, procedures, maintenance

schedules and the actual, I guess, the make-up of the whole ride itself in terms of compliance
about contemporary engineering," he said.

'Gold Coast is safe'
Ben Swan, the Queensland secretary of the Australian Workers Union, said the organization
voiced serious concerns about the operation and maintenance of some equipment at
Dreamworld last year, although not the river rapids ride.

"However, we do think that in the interests of workers at that facility, but also to the patrons of

Codd said he was aware of the reports and added: "I would imagine that would be an
important area of interest for the coroner".

The Gold Coast, which hosts the Commonwealth Games in 2018, is a major tourist destination
and Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk pleaded with holidaymakers not to turn their
backs on the area.
"The Gold Coast is safe," she told the Seven Network.
"Please don't alter your holiday plans. Please continue to show your support. We will get to the
bottom of this."
Dreamworld, which opened in 1981 and has over 40 rides and attractions, said in a statement
late Tuesday its whole team was "devastated and shocked".
"We are working closely with the authorities to understand exactly what occurred."
