Traffic volume is a flexible test depending on the purpose of the result, the details of the study
and the duration can span from a long period or the classification able to go very detail. In this
study, the objective set out is to determine the vehicle composistion, flow trend & movements
pattern and also estimate the hourly volume & average daily traffice. The study is carried out
in the green stip in the map shown below with only one hour data collection from 10:10 a.m.
to 11:10 a.m on Tuesday.

To determine the composition of the traffic, the data collection is breakdown in to 7 classes
including Car, Light Goods Vehicle (LGV), Medium Goods Vehicle (MGV), Heavy Goods
Vehicle (HGV), Bus, Motorcycle and Pedestrians & Cyclist. The composition of the road
during the study time is shown below.

Car LGV MGV HGV Bus M/Cycle Pede & Cyc

It can be seen that most vehicle utilize the road are XXX. One of the most compelling factor
effecting the result is the service or location of the road. For example in an industrial area, it is
natural that more Medium and Heavy Goods Vehicle can be seen compare to a residential area.
In our case, the study is conducted inside a campus, inside a campus the user of the road mainly
students and university staffs mainly for human movement for attending class instead of
transportation of materials. Buses can also often be found in this having XXX amount.

From the data, it is worth mentioning that the traffic varies greatly depending on the day and
time of the study. Under normal circumstances it can be safety say that during weekday, the
traffic volume will always greater than the traffic volume during weekend since the most of
the classes are held during weekdays. Time also plays an important factor in our case, by
analysis time and the amount of vehicle, it can be clearly seen that more vehicle can be found
during the end of an hour and the start of the hour. This effect is most likely owing to start and
end of a lecture, lecture in Uniten often start sharp on the hour and end also at the sharp of the
hour for example from 8:00 to 9:00 in the morning and 10:00 to 12:00 in the morning. Due to
the start of a lecture, student and lecture move from one place to another can be consider the
main reason in this case. From here, similar to situation outside of the campus, the peak hour
is most likely around 8:00 a.m. and also around 5:00 p.m. also because of most of the classes
ended around this time period. Another point worth pointing out is that the traffic volume in
the morning is higher than in the after because again the most of the lecture being held in the
morning.

For our case, the hourly volume is around XXXXX. By car taking up XX%, LGV XX%, MGV
XX%, HGV XX%, Bus XX%, Motorcycle XX% and Pedestrian & Cyclist XX%.
