STANDING ORDERS &
NIGHT ORDERS BOOK
All marine (Saudi Aramco or Contractor) vessels engaged in Saudi Aramco offshore
operations are required to have written Masters STANDING ORDERS and a NIGHT
ORDERS BOOK. This requirement is specified in the Marine Loss Prevention Program
Section 6.1.15, which states that the vessels Master is to:
Write Ships Standing Orders for all Watch-keepers to follow and have these
standing orders displayed in a prominent position in the wheelhouse/bridge
The required procedure is as follows:
1. The Master of every marine (Saudi Aramco or Contractor) vessel will have a NIGHT
ORDERS BOOK which will have a set of STANDING ORDERS placed at the
beginning of the book, to apply to those times, when he is absent from the bridge.
2. The Standing Orders shall define:

The various situations when the Master shall be called.


Navigation Instructions (Underway and At Anchor).
Radio Communications
Posting of lookouts
Duties while alongside a Pier/Boat Landing/Oil Well etc.

3. The Master will write specific instructions for Night Watch-keepers at the vessels
present location in the NIGHT ORDERS BOOK for every night, and sign at the
bottom of the page.
4. Watch-keepers will ask the Master for any clarification on their responsibilities about
which they are unsure.
5. Watch-keepers will sign their understanding of both the STANDING ORDERS and
the NIGHT ORDERS.
6. Signed STANDING ORDERS will also be displayed in a prominent location in the
wheelhouse/bridge.
This requirement is to be implemented immediately and compliance to this requirement will
be checked in every quarterly inspection of the vessel.
