Music in Country Churches ~ 25th and 26th July
Three high quality concerts were held in St Marys, Great Massingham.
Both St Marys and St Andrews in Little Massingham will benefit from the
funds raised by MiCC at these concerts. The charity provided the structure but
the two days would not have been possible nor such a success without all the
volunteers who cleaned, cooked, carried, stewarded and more.Particular
thanks go to Margaret Bowes who co-ordinated the planning and volunteers at
the Great Massingham end. A phenomenal job well done.
The church was packed on Tuesday night for the English Chamber Orchestras
concert. In the first half Chlo Hanslip was the solo violin for a vivacious
performance of Vivaldis Four Seasons, see her below in rehearsal. A petite
performer ~ she packed a lot of punch. More pics @ www.ggmbenefice.uk
After the interval the orchestra alone continued with pieces by Grieg and
Mozart. As dusk fell the bats came out to play; it seemed the faster the music
the more excited the bats were as they whirled overhead. They even joined in
with some chirruping of their own.
Wednesday mornings concert featured husband and wife, James Johnstone and
Carole Cerasi, on harpsichords. The delicate tinkling music was a contrast to
the noise generated the night before; although the performance looked effortless
it hid some complicated crossed-hands sections.
kampa Quartet gave a vibrant exciting final concert that was a fitting end to
this mini festival of music. The quartet of young Czech string players was
named after Milan kampa who (from 1956) played the viola in the renowned
Smetana Quartet which existed from 1945 to 1989. Czech out You Tube
