CL1102 Advanced Design of Concrete Structures [3 0 1 4]

Course Learning Outcome:

After successful completion of the course, student will be able to
assess gravity and lateral loading on the structures and use appropriate codal stipulations
analyse and design structural elements such as deep beam, corbel, shear wall and building structure
analyse and design specialized structures such as water tank, bunker, silo and bridge
analyse and design prestressed concrete beam
exercise serviceability criteria for structural elements

Syllabus:
Dead Load, Live Load, Wind Load & Earthquake loads on structures and it's estimation & combination.
Serviceability criteria for structures Deflection, Crack width, Fire resistance.
Inelastic behavior & Moment redistribution of structural member.
Design of Slender Column, Flat Slab, Frame Structure Building, Shear Wall, Deep Beam and Grid Floor.
Special structures design Water Tank, Silo, Bunker & Bridge.
Prestressed Concrete Design Concept, Materials, System, Analysis, Losses, Serviceability, End block,
Design of Beam.

Self Study:
The self study contents will be declared at the commencement of semester. Around 10% of the questions will
be asked from self study contents.

Laboratory Work:
Minimum two complete designs of structures with detailed drawings from the following list:
(a) Multi-Storeyed structures (b) Water retaining and treatment structures
(c) Material storage structures (d) Large span structures
(e) Bridge and aqueduct (f) Any other special structures
The design report shall contain details of planning, modeling, analysis, design, references and all necessary
drawings in the form of neat-dimensioned sketches drawn to scale.
