Character Captain: The Odyssey involves a whole cast of great warriors and
fantastic creatures. Your task is to get to know and understand the characters in the
text. Describe their personalities--how they act, how they feel, what they think. Share
the observations you have about them to your group. Select adjectives that describe
one or more of the characters in your novel, and support your selection with examples
taken from your reading assignment.

Odysseus Unfaltering In books 5-8, Odysseus was able to overcome vast
numbers of trials like the storm, being in a new
land, and showing to others who he was. He did all
of these just so that he could be a step closer to
returning home

Kalypso Selfish In book 5, Kalypso finally let go of Odysseus but


this only happened after 7 years, and she even
needed to be convinced by Hermes to let Odysseus
go.

Alkinoos Welcoming In book 7, Alkinoos did not hesitate to welcome


Odysseus into his home. Despite Odysseus being a
complete stranger, he still opened his house to
him/

Poseidon Cruel In book 5, Odysseus was already nearing the island


of the Phanaiakians, but Poseidon saw this and
started a storm that cause Odysseus to experience
more hardships.

Nausikaa Prudent In book 6, Nausikaa, with the help of Athena, went


to the aid of Odysseus by giving him clothing,
drink, and directions to where the palace was
without thinking twice.
Athena Witty From books 5-8, Athena was able to use her wits to
help Odysseus overcome the different problems he
was experiencing like overcoming the sea, looking
for help in the island of the Phaiakians
