Cape Cod Rails to Trails Project

Dear Mrs. Belfield:

The purpose of this memorandum is to convey the Massachusetts Army National

Guards intent to maintain and improve rail operations on Army National Guard Training
Site, Camp Edwards.

Camp Edwards is the largest Army National Guard Training Site in New England
and is designed to support up to brigade-sized training and operations. Rail operations
are essential to mobilizing and demobilizing Soldiers and units in support of training
events, contingency operations and times of war.

Our need to provide strategic mobility access and training will directly impact
proposed plans to connect the Shining Sea Bikeway from Falmouth to Sandwich. The
course of action to complete a rails-to-trails project by removing 6.25 miles of track will
directly impact our readiness as an installation.
