This seminar is mainly inspired by the need of finding alternative economical,

energy efficient and low emission fuels. The level of greenhouse gases
produced by the use of fossil fuels has increased drastically over the decades
and is a threat to world climate. Many attempts for using biodiesel made from
edible and non-edible seeds in CI engines have been made in past years. The
limited availability of these seeds discourage the use of biodiesel as fuel. To
counter this problem this investigation is aimed at replacing a part of the
biodiesel with tyre pyrolysis oil(TPO). During the first phase of the research
work done under this investigation TPO was blended with Jaropha Methyl
Ester (JME), and was used as alternative fuel in a single cylinder, four stroke,
air cooled DI diesel engine. It was able to produce a power of 4.4 KW. Engine
behaviour was evaluated in terms of various factors such as combustion,
performance and emissions. VIKOR was used for further optimisation of the
blend made in first phase of the work. A blend comprising of 20% TPO and 80%
JME had better performance than diesel operations. After optimisation of the
blend various investigations were done to optimise it with respect to various
injection timings, pressures and compression ratios. Blends oxidation stability
was also evaluated and a durability analysis was done to evaluate blend
feasibility for long term operations.
