On June 19, I walked my
student group from
Simpson Dining Hall to
Galvin Auditorium. All 11
of my students were there
when we were leaving
Simpson.
When we arrived to the
CERP survey and I was
passing out materials, I
noticed I had a extra set of
materials. After I noticed
this, one of my students
told me another student
had gone up to his room to
get his jacket when we
were leaving. I then
proceeded to text him to
figure out where he was
and told him to follow the
crowd over to Galvin,
which he said he would do.
When I texted and called
him 10 minutes later, he

Before I had lost my
student, I had been
struggling all day. My
group was introverted with
a few very shy individuals.
I had to carry the
conversation all day to get
people to talk. I felt like it
was my fault that no one
was talking and put a lot of
blame on myself.
After realizing my student
was not with me, I was
very upset. It added onto a
very stressful day. I was
rushing to find him,
because I felt like I had a
responsibility to him and
his parents. I was
entrusted to keep this
student safe.
However, once I found
him, a wave of relief went
through me. I felt

During a situation like this,
it is important to remain
calm. My stress got in the
way, and it was probably
the reason I did not notice
the student in the
auditorium right away.
Next time, I should just
step out and breathe
before overthink. After
finding my student, I went
to go to my challenge
group leader to debrief on
the situation which was
very helpful. She helped
me analyze the situation.
Also, when dealing with an
introverted group, I have
realized quiet is okay. At
did not respond or pick up.
It was then that I
proceeded to search the
room multiples times and
contact Christine to tell her
one of my students was
missing. She then had me
check Galvin one more
time and go over to his
room in Simpson to find
him. I did not find him.
It wasnt until the end of
the survey that I noticed
him in the corner of the
room.

relates because it
encourages the Jesuit
practice of self-awareness.
I believe self-awareness is
key to this job because one
must be confident in their
self, actions and leadership
in order to lead a group of
individuals. Also, during
times of stress, it is
important to self-regulate
judgements and
assumptions, such as my
assumption that I lost my
students or that my other
students were not having a
good time.
