Lesson #1: Context Clues/ Types

Lesson Overview: This lesson instructs the students on the different types of context clues and the various
ways to use them.

PowerPoint Presentation and guided notes

Computers

Exit Ticket

Step 1: Pre-Instructional Activities

5-7 minutes- Show the Minion Short Clips as an attention getting and an introduction to our unit. Explain to the

students how the video fits our unit and go over the student objective with them.

Step 2: Content Presentation

20- 25 minutes- Have the students fill out the guided notes as you go through the context clues PowerPoint.

Step 3: Learner Participation

15- 20 minutes- allow the students to get into a partnership and assign them a type of context clue for them to

make an online poster using picmonkey.com about the assigned context clue. They are going to become experts

about this type of clue. They will be presenting in class tomorrow. Walk around give them feedback and help.

Step 4: Assessment

While the students are working on their online posters, walk around and do an informal assessment to

understand if the students are able to identify the different types of context clues.

Step 5: Follow-Through Activities

3-5 minutes- Have the students fill out the exit ticket to help understand if they were able to retain the

information presented today.
