The novel that I choose is Dear Mr Kilmer written by Anne Schraff.

The part of the story that I

like most is when Richard goes hunting with his father, Pa and his brother, Gus. This part of the story
has taught me many lessons in life.

Firstly, from this part of the story, I learn that we must have a compassion towards animals.
Richard has a ____________ for animals. His compassion towards animals is shown when Richard,
Pa and Gus go to the woods for deer hunting one day in winter. This is the day where Richard is going
to shoot his first deer. When they see a deer drinking by a stream,Richard aims his gun at the deer.
Suddenly, the ____________ happens. He purposely misfires causing the deer to quickly disappear.
Richard wants to avoid killing the deer. Gus is so furious at Richard because Richard is like
____________. Gus ____________ that he could have killed the deer if Pa let him take the shot. Pa
asks Gus to return to their cabin as he wants to talk to Richard. From this incident,we know that
Richard hates hunting as he believes it is wrong to take an animals life

Secondly, in the deer hunting incident, I learn that we have to learn to understand each other's
true feelings. When Richard deliberately misfires, Pa is so disappointed with Richard. He asks Richard
why he missed shooting the deer on purpose. Richard says that he does not have the right to kill the
deer. Richardfeels painful if he were to take an animal's life. Pa tells Richard that he also __________
a little every time he shoots an animal.According to Pa, "Death is a part of life". Richard is
________________ by what his father says. His father rarely speaks his own
feelings.After____________, Pa tells Richard that he does not have to go hunting anymore.Richard
feels ________________ for making Pa sad. However, he also feels _____________ for not having to
take the precious life of an innocent deer. Even though Richard is ____________ with Pa, they still act
rationally by trying to understand each others feelings.

Thirdly, this event has taught me that we should be brave to stand up for what is right. In this
incident, we can see that Richard is being brave to go against the norm by not killing the deer. As
part of family of loves hunting, Richard sticks to his opinion that killing animal is wrong. Richard
________________ the first time he went hunting with his Pa, Gus and Grandpa. He was eight years
old. His Grandpa shot and killed a deer. He struggled to keephimself from crying. The painful
childhood emotions make him sad again. He is brave enough to be looked down by his brother, Gus
who constantly belittles Richards ability in hunting. I believe that sometimes we dont have to
please people and let go of our principles in life just to fit in the society just like Richard.

In conclusion, the part where Richard goes deer hunting with Pa and Gus has provided me with a lot
of lessons that I can practised .................................................
