Reflection Paper

It is not everyday we get to experience such exxperiences we had last August 04 as some
speakers came to our schools to share their own knowledge in their respective field. Each speaker
shared a lot to us, students, in ways only they can. I, myself, gained a lot from them.

Rodolfo Santigan Caballero, together with his wife, explained to us what their tribe is all about,
the Panay Bukidnon Tribe. The said tribe is located in Calinog, Iloilo. Mr and Mrs Caballero talked about
Mga Tagik and Hulak which was, I guess, a story about the tribe. The spouses also performed some of
their chants for us to hear it. The chanting of sugidanon epic of the Panay Bukidnon was full of words
only the tribe members can comprehend. The chanting, if my memory serves me well, talked about a
tree (panit sang kahoy). Mr Caballero and his wife taught me how important to know when, where and
how we came from. We are all descendants of anything or something. It is by respect to our ancestors to
know where we came from and form a common bond or ies with our fellow descendants, just like the
Panay Bukidnon tribe.

Art is a form of freedom expression as they say. A fine artist came to our schoolm to describe
his own definition of art. He talked about his works; what came into his mind as to why he did it, his
inspirations while doing it and the purpose of his works. It is not popularity or fame for some artists as
to why they do their works, most is to convey a message. The talked about art simply awaken me how
art is connected as to why we live. As a human, we simply act according to what we think we can do,
want or need to do, our inspirations that push as to reach our aspirations in life and the unending seach
for our purpose. This is why, I say, Art is simply life as well.

As a boy of this era, Ive never really put too much effort on taking photos unlike any other
millenials to post on social media as well as put too much thoughts about it. I have never, as well, put
too much thoughts on how to use a camera as long as it serves its purpose; to take photos. I didnt
know a camera requires a lot of knowledge and attention to use it. There are words I heard such as
aperture, ISO speed, shutter and etc Each word or should I say modes/programs has a vital role for
taking a photograph. Photography baslo has rules to be followed, requires some adjustments, needs
training and most especially it needs focus. As what the speaker said, Focus is the state of our eyes
when taking a picture. This simply imply to us that everyday we should not let our eyes off or lose focus
on what we want to achieve to take a great shot in the end.

The talk about the tribe, art and photography made me realize a lot of things in life and about it.
Trully, knowledge sometimes isnt about what we hear but by understanding what we heard.
