Establish a food stamp system for low-income families.

B E IT ENACTED by being passed by the Northern Ireland Assembly and


assented to by Her Majesty as follows:

Definitions
1.(1) A food stamp is a 30 voucher supplied by the government on a
weekly basis which can be accepted in any supermarket for food and food only.
(2) A low-income family is a household consisting of one or more parents
with one or more children whose annual gross income less than 10,700.

Distribution
2.(1) All low-income families who have applied to the programme shall
receive 30 of food stamps per child, with a maximum of five stamps per family,
on a weekly basis.
(2) Families must apply on a yearly basis, listing how many children are in the
household and their annual income.

Acceptance
3.(1) Food stamps should be accepted by all supermarkets without dispute;
and any refusal from supermarkets will result in a fine.
(2) No more than 200 of food vouchers may be spent at one time, after which

supermarkets have the right to refuse.

Regulation and enforcement


4.(1) Any false claims will be treated as fraud.
(2) This Act is to be enforced by the Department of Finance.

Extension, commencement, and short title


5.(1) This Act applies to Northern Ireland.
(2) This Act may be cited as the Food Stamp Act (Northern Ireland) [Year].
