First Week of Instruction

Grade Level: 1st Subject: Social Studies

Day 1: TEK 1.03A Distinguish among past, present, and future

Activity: Students will identify items from past, present, and future using Past v.
Present web games (macmillanmh.com) with a partner.



Day 2: TEK 1.03B Describe and measure calendar time by days, weeks, months and
years.

Activity: Students will construct a class wall calendar and identify/maintain
important dates in the school year such as quizzes, holidays, and birthdays.



Day 3: TEK 1.03C Create a calendar and simple timeline

Activity: Students will create a pictorial timeline of events on a calendar for a one-
week time period and explain their relationship to each other.



Day 4: TEK 1.17C Sequence and categorize information

Activity: Students will be given 5 picture flash cards and will place them in
sequential order and classify them as past, present, or future.



Day 5: TEK 1.18B Create and interpret visual and written material

Activity: Students will engage in visual thinking strategies by asking themselves to
analyze what is happening in a picture of Martin Luther King Jr.s walk on
Washington.
