on the on hand, these lines contain the legacy of the platonic view of the world that distinguishes between
appearance and truet, between what is heard and what is meant. But if the poet longs to penetrate the
mysteries of animate nature it is not with the aim of uncovering meaning but instead with that of
replicating its silence, its murmurings that never reveal what is murmured, its very song for song's sake a
rejection of the outbursts of sincerity for someting less vocally personal. Jet the subsequent, exclamatory
stanzas, far from replicating the vitues of nature taht the poet so prizes, take the from of an exposition of
necessity and intent that emerges from the emotional core of the lyric subject
