I have participated in Kodaly class, the activities that teacher have
introduced are mainly about rhythmic and pitches. First is learning about the beat by comparing with heart beats. Then change the heart beats to musical sign and use different words for each rhythm, for example, Ta for quarter note and Tee Tee for 2 eighth note. After that, we learned to listen to 2 different pitches that are sung as sol and mi to let students try to hear the different pitches. Then, we combine the pitches and rhythm and do the dictation and finally become a song named cuckoo. At the end of the class, we do the sight singing for Its a small world which using move - do system. and finally we sung the lyrics. This class give me the idea of teaching beginner to understand the rhythm and pitches in an easy but effective way because the method is so detailed, for example, using tee tee for eighth note is to make student understand that eighth note is shorter than quarter, but its not short in the articulation. To teaching music is not only teaching skills, but also musical material. It is important to introduce rhythm and pitch step by step, and Kodaly method is a very useful one.
