Block diagram of the ammonium sulphate production plant

Review of the process:

In this process, 99.98% H2SO4 sulfuric acid is fed into the melter tank to be diluted
with water so the concentration is 50%. At the same time ammonia is diluted so that the
concentration becomes 20%. There is a reaction between sulfuric acid and ammonia to form
ammonium sulfate. The reaction is run at 60 C and 1 atm pressure with conversion of about
99%. The reaction is exothermic, so to keep the reaction temperature 60 C is necessary for
the relief. The saturated ammonium sulfate solution emerging from the storage tank is then
fed into the crystallizer (evaporative crystallizer), to crystallize the ammonium sulfate by
evaporating water as its solvent. The formed slurry is then separated inside the centrifugal
filter. The filtrate of the centrifugal filter which is the mother liquor is returned to the
crystallizer while the cake / solid is dried into the rotary drier to obtain ammonium sulphate
crystals of 98% purity.
