MALABAN ELEME

THE STORY O
Prior to the two and threestorey build-
ings present in the longstanding Malaban Ele- t
mentary School were the private houses of Mr. (
Putoy Casano, Mr. Nacasio Amoranto, Mr. Juan U
Capili and Mrs. Vicenta Marquina which served E
as the temporary school rooms for the first class h
for the residents of Barangay Malaban. On the r
year 1932, Mr. Apolinario Casano, the father of d
the first ever public school teacher from Mala- s
ban donated a parcel of land on which a M
three-classroom building was built and named L
the Gabaldon Building. l

When the Second World War broke, Mal-

aban had a complete primary grade levels (I-IV) w
wherein Ms. Baltazara C. Casano taught in w
Grade I, Ms. Leoncia Garcia in Grade II while c
Mr. Tinoy Alfonso in both Grades III and IV. c
By the year 1952, Malaban Elementary School
has become a complete basic elementary insti-
tution. c
(
The late Ms. Fernanda A. Almendral of a
Barangay Casile, Bian, Laguna (who passed a
away in 1981), became the first principal who
took over her position on the same year of Mal-
abans completion. p

By the years that followed, the govern- f
ment bought the parcel of land which was locat-
ed nearby the provincial street from Mr. Igme- c
dio Amoranto; during this time, the elementary g
school was completed with the total land area a
of 5,670 square meters. From 20 pupils and 1
teacher during its first year, it went up to 1969
student enrollees, 48 teachers, 1
principal and a janitor. The old Gabaldon Build-
ing was followed by the construction of the
following infrastructures:
ENTARY SCHOOL :
OF THE PAST
Malaban Elementary School was consisted of
the principal office, Learning Resource Center
(LRC), Guidance Office and Six (6) classrooms.
Unfortunately, the roofs of the classrooms; Miss
Edelmira, the principal of that year, called out for the
help of the Salvation Army in helping the repair the
roofs of the rooms. The said repaired roofs were
destroyed by strong hurricanes which happened to
strike the area during those times. With the help of
Mr. Wensceslao Amoranto, one unit of Bagong
Lipunan was established and the three rooms were
later repaired.

The constructed building was an L-shaped one

with seven classrooms wherein five of the rooms
were rebuilt in 1982 due to termite infestation which
caused the roofs and ceilings to be destroyed and
condemned.

The Gabaldon building was then repaired that

costed PhP100,000 from the Bureau of Public Works
(BPW) which later was destroyed by fire on 1981
and was once again repaired April 1981 with the
amount of PhP100,000 from the BPW.

After the several changes and challenges of the

pioneer school of Bian, it continues to stand on the
ground thats founded in education equity, passion
for Filipino learners and service to its community.
The school now thrives to continuously support its
community through different programs and strate-
gies that cater the needs of the 21st century learners
and educators.
