Course Objectives: 7th Grade Social Studies is an introductory course to World Geography. The course will
build on map skills, interpreting charts and graphs, five themes of geography, World & U.S. History, types of
government and economics. The students will be able to apply map skills and the five themes of geography
with a focus on the following regions: Asia, Oceania, Americas, Africa and Europe. At the end of the year
students will be able to locate specific types of geographic features, interpret and analyze visual information,
understand how types of governments affect the types of economic systems. We will also do a review of
significant events that have happened in World History focusing on the different cultures and the impact it has
on the world today. The course will also focus on U.S. History from Early America to the Constitutional Era,
with an emphasis also on the democratic-republic government type system.

Student Learner Outcomes (SLOs Addressed: Be Responsible, Respectful and Safe & Value Their Community)
Students are expected to adhere to the ROADRUNNER THREE by being:

Respectful: Not only to their teachers, but also to their peers, school personnel, and school property.
Safe: Use school uniform and shoes daily and appropriately. Please refer to Board Policy 401 for
further school uniform guidelines. No contrabands or weapons allowed. Possession of
either/both will result in a major referral to the administrator of discipline.
Responsible: Students are expected to adhere to the regulation of the school and rules of the classroom.
o Be on class daily and on time. Bring class materials daily.
o Wait for the teacher to admit and dismiss you from class.
o FOOD, DRINK OR GUM CHEWING is NOT allowed in class.
o Take care of the materials provided to you by the teacher. Report any damage to the
materials immediately to the teacher.

Submit assignments on time. Keep track of your missed assignments by using a planner.
Parents should check planner daily to ensure completion of assignments or comments from
teacher(s). Parents may contact teacher via email address provided above. Please see make
up work policy below.
o Three unexcused tardy is equivalent to one absence. Three consecutive absences must require
a doctors note. Three unexcused absences in a quarter will warrant a mandatory parent/team
teacher conference.
As a team, we are implementing a four levels of consequences. Students will have two chances to curtail the
unwanted behavior(s). If student chooses to commit an offense, the following will be implemented:

1st consequence Teacher warning. Notation made.

2nd consequence Notation made and a phone call made to parent/guardian in the attempt to
curtail behavior. Student will also be subject to team detention.

3rd consequence Parent meeting or activity detention. Team behavioral monitor sheet initiated
by AAP teacher.

4th consequence Referral for disciplinary action as a major offense.

All MAJOR offenses will be handled directly by the administrator for discipline.

Make up Work Policy


Make up assignments are due three days after an excused absence(s). Arrangements may also be made
directly with the teacher should additional days are required. Pre-arranged absences must be made with the
school counselors and assignments will be due upon the return from absence, unless prior arrangements are
made. It is the students responsibility to request for his/her missing assignments from the teacher and to
submit it in the timely manner agreed upon.

Evaluation:
Students are evaluated based on a percentage system broken down below. Participation/Citizenship focuses
on the behavior for each student. Students will be graded based on a citizenship rubric(see attachment).
Folders are to be signed weekly to show parents/guardians the progress of their children and what is being
done in class on a daily basis. Journals are topics that will be assigned based on/relevant to the theme of study.
Assignments will be assigned daily and are expected to be turned in on time. Projects will be assigned
throughout the year to show overall comprehension of the topic covered.

89-80 B 59-below F

Homework Policy:
The main purpose of homework is provided independent practice at home; lesson reinforcement with
immediate feedback. It may also serve for assignments such as enrichment projects and preparation for the
following day lessons. It is imperative homework assignments be completed and submitted in a timely basis to

ensure student mastery and/or for the teacher to provide additional academic instruction or practice as
necessary. Please check your child daily for homework assignments.
