Course Study I hope you and your family had a great summer! Your 7th grader will be in my U.S.
History II class this year. The course of study will be American history from 1877 through modern
times. The main areas of discussion for this class will include the emergence of modern America,
1865 to 1900s. We will examine the turmoil and change of the 1890s thru 1945 and we will
discuss the effects of World War II on the United States. Your child will also be required to know
the location of all 50 U.S. states and throughout the year will be discussing civics and economics.
It is an exciting curriculum and this year will be using interactive notebooks to help engage your
child in the classroom. Please note that textbooks will not be issued to the students. The books
will be used as a resource in the classroom. If you have concerns about this please call or email
me your concerns and I will arrange for your child to have a book at home.

Homework/ Late Assignments All homework assignments and will be posted and recorded in the
students agenda. All assignments are due when the student enters the classroom on the
date assigned. Failure to turn items in on time will result in a zero; until the student turns it
in and points will be deducted.

Agenda Agendas will serve as communication between teacher and parent. If a student does not
turn in their homework, a Did Not Turn In Homework stamp will be in their agenda from the
teacher. Discipline problems will also be noted in the agenda, Parent Signature is required on all
communications in the agenda. Please check this communication daily.

Being Prepared for Class If students are to receive the best education they must come to
class prepared. This means students must have their composition notebooks, 2 pencils, 2 pens,
a 12 pack of colored pencils and agenda in class everyday. They must also have their
Chromebook charged and ready to use everyday! If the students fails to come to class prepared
they will face disciplinary action as outlined by JMMS. Students will not be allowed to go to their
lockers to retrieve these items.

Discipline The Jones discipline model will be used as follows: Step One: Warning and a note in
the agenda. Step Two: contact made to the guardian. Step Three: Teacher assigns before school
detention is assigned (7:45 - 8:40) Step Four: A referral to the appropriate administrator note any
serve behavior will be addressed immediately. Tardiness will be handled in the same manner.
Students will only be excused from a tardy with appropriate documentation.

Behavior in the Classroom All students will follow the JMMS honor code and the rules according to
the Rights and Responsibilities Handbook Code of Conduct. Students will also be required to
adhere to the classroom rules that I have posted.
