Mrs. Zarei's Parents Handbook 2017-18
I will be spending a great amount of time with your child and being a parent myself,
I feel the need to share a little bit about myself.
I was born and raised in Tehran, Iran. I moved to Wichita 18 years ago after I
received my Bachelor degree in English. My husband is a Respiratory Therapist and
loves his job in Kansas Medical Center. We have been blessed with two amazing
daughters, Hanna, this year a freshman and Ayla, starting 5th grade. During my
student years I taught English to Second language learners. I found teaching a
rewarding profession. When Ayla started Pre-K, I joined WCS as a substitute
teacher and got myself ready for the new adventure by taking classes such as
Reading Readiness, Handwriting without Tears and Everyday Mathematics. I wore
many hats at WCS. I have been the teachers assistant in Pre-school and I have also
been helping students to boost their phonemic awareness. My favorite times are
spent with my family and teaching the young minds.
This handbook will outline some of the important information you will want to know
about my program. I encourage you to read each page and jot down any questions you
might have.
I am so excited that you and your child will be a part of my preschool program
this year. I am looking forward to getting acquainted with you and your child
during this fun school year!

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE
DATES

SCHOOL YEAR ARE:
ABSENCES
If your child will not be attending school for the day, it would be helpful to call the
school or let me know in advance. 316-634-0489 ext 268
ILLNESS
Please keep your child home for 24 hours after a fever has broken. ALL children go
outside each day, therefore, they should be well enough to go outside when they
come to school.
ACCIDENTS
I will try to let you know when your child has had a minor mishap that may need TLC
and a Band-aid. Please let me know if your child is allergic to Band-aids, because
they are usually a cure-all for this age group For cuts and abrasions, children will
be asked to wash the wound with soap and water. No medication is applied.

FIELD TRIPS
When field trips are planned, you will receive a detailed account of the trip in
advance and a permission slip to sign and return to school. You will always need to
sign and return a permission slip in order for your child to go on a field trip. ALL
children are required by law to be in approved car seats or booster seats. Parents
will be recruited as chaperones and to provide transportation, if necessary.
SNACKS
NO PEANUT PRODUCTS
We at Collegiate strongly believe that helping children develop good food habits
should be an important function of our curriculum. Your child will be provided a snack
prepared in our lunchroom. Water will be served with each snack. You have already
provided the cups with your school supplies. Snack time will be used to emphasize
nutrition and good manners.
BIRTHDAYS
Party day is every childs favorite day! School parties are usually 45 minutes
in length with games and crafts planned and provided by parents. There is a
sign-up sheet for each party on Orientation Day. I ask that the parties be
simple and non-competitive in nature. Each class will have a Party Coordinator
who will contact you about party plans.
ENHANCEMENT CLASSES
All children will have the opportunity to attend Physical Education, Music and
Library. Students will attend P.E. and Music class twice per week. We will have
Library once per week. They will be required to wear tennis shoes to P.E.
DRESS CODE
Busy, creative learning play can be messy play regardless of the age of your
child. We do use smocks to cover clothing during art projects and washable
paint is used. Stains or spills can not be avoided. Please dress your child in
play clothing so that he/she can enjoy our activities without fear of soiling an
outfit.
DISCIPLINE
Part of the daily preschool experience includes opportunities for the children
to grow in areas of self-control, cooperation and sharing. Children will be
encouraged to redirect their actions in a constructive manner throughout
their daily activities. If the child is in need of time away from the group,
he/she will be given the opportunity to recompose him/herself. I will then
review with the child appropriate behavioral expectations. Our classroom
RULES are: 1. BE KIND 2. BE SAFE This process empowers young children
to become self-confident and successful in any social setting.
CURRICULUM
The curriculum in my classroom may look like childs play. And it is!! Play is
the avenue to learning and has been carefully structured so the children can
grow and develop socially, physically, emotionally and intellectually in a loving,
relaxed affirming atmosphere. At this stage of life, developing a sense of
wonder and appreciation for learning, along with an awareness of what it takes
to form positive and cooperative relationships with others, is just as important
as the mastery of academic skills.
The preschool program is based on the knowledge that young children are
active learners, involved in the process that uses all their senses as they talk,
work and play with people and materials.
GROUP TIME
Our daily Group Time provides the opportunity for your child to learn in a large
group setting. Group lessons include stories, music, gross motor activities,
language experiences, listening skills, calendar/math activities, presentation
of new work and discussion of the current unit of study.
LEARNING CENTERS
PHILOSOPHY
Children come to us fresh and alive and ready for new experiences. There is
no reason that they should ever lose those wonderful, eager qualities. It is
our responsibility to nurture this enthusiasm and to pay attention to each
childs individual time table for learning.
