ANALOGUE ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM CONTROL SYSTEM

PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 SCOPE & RELATED DOCUMENTS

A. The work covered by this section of the specifications includes the furnishing of all
labor equipment, materials, and performances of all operations in connection with the
installation of the
Fire Alarm system as shown on the drawings and as herein specified.

B. The requirements of the conditions of the Contract, Supplementary Conditions and


General
Requirements, apply to the work specified in this section.

C. The complete installation is to conform to the applicable sections of NFPA-72,


NFPA71, Local Code Requirements, and National Electrical Code with particular
attention to Article 760 and EN54.

D. The work covered by this section of the specifications is to be coordinated with the
related work as specified elsewhere under the project specifications.

1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. The equipment and installation supervision furnished under this specification is to be


provided by a manufacturer (independent dealers and/or distributors will NOT be
considered) who has been engaged in production of this type (software driven) of
equipment for at least ten (10) years, and has a fully-equipped service organization.

B. All control equipment must have transient protection devices to comply with UL
requirements or EN54 Part 2 and 4, Kitemark and LPCB / VdS approved.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

1. Manufacturers Technical Data : During the time of the contract and before substantial
completion of the electrical installation, submit to CONSULTANT three(3) copies of
descriptive literature, technical data, maintenance recommendations (from the
equipment manufacturer), catalogues etc

2. Installation Instructions: Submit the Complete manufacturers installation instructions of


all the products used.

3. Calculations: Forward calculations and data for battery sizing calculations for the power
supply.

4. Interfacing details: Details of interlacing with the various systems and sequence of
operation in case of alarm activation/fire situations cause and effect program shall be
submitted for CONSULTANT review / approval. The contractor shall obtain approval
from the local civil defence authority having jurisdiction for the fire alarm system
installation for any changes that may be made to the original drawings as approved for
the project. Detailed shop drawings shall be prepared and submitted for
CONSULTANT approval prior to submission to the Local Civil Defence Authority. All

shop drawings shall be approved by the Local Civil Defence Authority prior to
proceeding with the works.

5. Shop drawings: Shop drawings shall include, without being limited to, the following
drawings prepared specifically for this Works: Overall system diagrams complete with
catalogue numbers and wiring information. Identify components, terminations and
connections to agree with the identification used in the panels, boxes and equipment.
Front Views of fire panels, switches, pushbuttons and other devices, identified to agree
with the diagrams. As-built layouts marked on a set of building plans indicating panels,
annunciators, detectors, pull stations, signals, conduit routes, wiring information
junction boxes and pull boxes. On completion of the installation and testing, submit to
THE CONSULTANT 3 copies of all Shop drawings, diagrams, operating instructions
and descriptive literature, assembled in loose leaf binders and identified by Works.

6. Log sheets submittals, shop drawings, method of statements, and approvals shall be
submitted by the contractor.

1.4 MAINTENANCE SERVICE

A. Maintenance Service Contract: Provide maintenance contract ( to be agreed on by


the owner) of fire alarm systems and equipment for a period of 12 months from the
date of test and commissioning, using factory-authorized service representatives.
B. Spare parts of quantity not less than 10% of the total system quantities shall be
provided by the contractor to the owner after handing over.

1.5 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A. Furnish and install a complete Fire Alarm system as described herein and as shown on
the plans; to be wired, connected, and left in first class operating condition.

The system shall use closed loop initiating device circuits with individual zone
supervision, individual indicating appliance circuit supervision and standby power
supervision. Include a control panel, manual call stations, automatic fire detectors,
emergency phone jack , repeater, interface modules for control & monitoring
purposes, all wiring, connections to devices, outlet boxes, junction boxes, and all other
necessary material for a complete operating system.

The Analogue Addressable Fire Alarm Control panel shall allow for loading or editing
special instructions and operating sequences as required. The system shall be
capable of onsite programming to accommodate and facilitate expansion, building
parameter changes or changes as required by local codes. All software operations
shall be stored in a non-volatile programmable memory within the fire alarm control
panel. Loss of primary and secondary power shall not erase the instructions stored in
memory.

B. To accommodate and facilitate job site changes, initiation circuits shall be individually
configurable on site to provide either alarm/trouble operation, alarm only, trouble only,
current limited alarm, no non-latching circuit or a alarm verification circuit.

C. All panels and peripheral devices shall be the standard product of a single
manufacturer and shall display the manufacturer's name on each component.

D. Activation of the fire alarm system shall directly initiate some or all of the following to be
agreed as part of the overall engineering policy:-
1. Shut down mechanical ventilation plant.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 FIRE ALARM CONTROL PANEL

A. Where shown on the plans provide and install a Fire Alarm Control Panel.
Construction shall be modular with dual flash, microprocessor technology with on
board real time clock. It shall display only those primary controls and displays
essential to operation during a fire alarm conditions. Although the keypad/keyboard
can be used for control (firefighter/emergency) of the entire system, it shall only be
used for maintenance purposes. Keyboards or keypads shall not be visible or
required to operate the system during fire alarm conditions. A local audible device
shall sound during Alarm and Trouble conditions. This audible device shall sound
differently during each condition to distinguish one condition from another without
having to view the panel. This audible device shall also sound differently during each
key press to provide an audible feedback (chirp) to ensure that the key has been
pressed properly. The system shall utilize the soft addressing and loop detection for
trouble free commissioning.

The panel shall have minimum of 1000 history events and 1000 zones. The master
Fire alarm control panel should consist of four loops expandable to 6 or 8 Loops;
each loop should support up to 240 Devices. The loop length should support up to 2
Km. the panel should be equipped with built in Network card and RS232 port for PC
and Modem.

Forty Panels should be networked with redundancy as per the schematic diagrams.

B. ENCLOSURE(S)

Provide cabinet(s) of sufficient size to accommodate the aforementioned equipment.


The cabinet(s) shall be equipped with locks and [solid] [transparent] door panel(s)
providing freedom from tampering [yet allowing full view of the various lights and
controls].

C. PRIMARY KEYS AND PANEL DISPLAY

The Master Control Panel's display shall be backlit 240 x 64 graphical LCD for
enhanced readability. So as to conserve battery standby power, it shall not be lit
during an AC power failure unless an alarm condition occurs or there should be
keypad activity.

The display shall support both upper and lower case letters. Lowercase letters shall
be used for soft key titles and prompting the user. Uppercase letters shall be used for
System Status Information. A cursor shall be visible when entering information. The
display should support multi Language as well.

D. EQUIPMENT ENCLOSURES

Provide cabinet(s) of sufficient size to accommodate the aforementioned equipment.


The cabinet(s) shall be equipped with locks and transparent door panel(s) providing
freedom from tampering yet allowing full view of the various lights and controls.

2.2 ADDRESSABLE DEVICE TYPES

A. GENERAL

The system control panel, over its two wire multi drop channel, must be capable of
communicating with the types of addressable devices specified below. [Addressable
devices will be located as shown on the drawings.] [The location of addressable
devices will be selected along with conventional devices to optimize the system layout
in order to provide the level of protection, zone identification and control as shown on
the drawings.]

B. ADDRESSABLE CALL POINT STATIONS

1. Addressable call station should contain electronics that communicate the station's
status (alarm, normal) to the control panel over two wires which also provide
power to the station. The address shall be set on each station. The station shall
mechanically latch upon operation and remain so until manually reset by opening
with a key common to all system locks. Call stations shall be double action.

2. The front of the station is to be hinged to a back plate assembly and must be
opened with a key to reset the station. The key shall be common with control
panels.

3. The addressable manual station shall be capable of field programming of its


"address" location on an addressable signaling line circuit.

4. The call point shall be equipped with built in LED Indicator and short circuit
isolator to comply with NFPA72 Wiring Class A style 7.

5. There shall be no limit to the number of stations, detectors, or Zone Adaptor


Modules, which may be activated or "in alarm" simultaneously.

C. INTELLIGENT SENSOR

The Intelligent shall be of the [heat] [photoelectric] type and shall communicate actual
chamber values to the system control panel.

The smoke sensors and bases shall be listed to UL Standard or LPCB or VdS
approves and documented compatible with the control equipment to which they are
connected. The sensors shall be listed for both ceiling mount application.

All intelligent detectors shall have the following features:

Adaptation to different environmental condition


automatic function self test,
and integrated short circuit line isolators

All the sensors should be analogue Addressable (Intelligent) type.


All detectors installed at planet rooms Like AHU room, pump room, generator room and
transformer room should be IP45.

D. PHOTOELECTRIC SENSOR HEAD

The following specifications are in addition to the common specifications of detectors


and apply to optical (Photo-electric) smoke detectors only.

The detector should have visible 360 o bicolor (RED/GREEN) indication LED driven by
Control Panel.

Optical smoke detectors shall be of analogue addressable, suitable for detection of


visible products of combustion, and will be of the light scattering type using a pulsed
internal infra-red LED and a silicon photodiode receiver.

The optical sensing chamber shall be configured such that the horizontal optical bench
housing the LED emitter and sensor is arranged radically to detect forward scattered
light.

Smoke entry points shall be protected against ingress of dust and insects by corrosion
resistant gauze.

Build up of drift or other environmental contamination on optical chamber may cause a


variation in the analogue output from the detector. The detector shall apply
compensation to this variation, and should send the level of compensation to the FACP
in non volatile memory. Smoke detectors shall be located in all building facilities except
the following (kitchen, pantry, generator room, transformer room).

E. THERMAL SENSOR HEAD:

The detector should have visible 360 o bicolor (RED/GREEN) LED driven by Control
Panel.
The following specifications are in addition to the common specifications of detectors
and apply to temperature (Heat) detectors only.

The temperature detectors shall be analogue addressable, suitable for detection of rate
of rise of ambient temperature OR fixed temperature threshold. Detection will be by
means of single NTC thermistor. Thermal detectors shall be used in the following areas
(kitchen, pantry, generator room, transformer room).

F. ADDRESSABLE CONTROL AND MONITOR UNIT:

Interface units shall be provided as required to monitor and/or control systems other
than addressable equipment, such as sprinkler system, LPG, PAVA, CO, Extract fan,
pressurization fans, HVAC, Access Control and Smoke Management System

The unit shall provide a voltage free, single pole, change over relay output and/or a
single, monitored switch input.

All the interface units should be equipped with short circuit isolators.

G. ALARM NOTIFICATION DEVICES:

A. COMBINED SOUNDER FLASHER

The sounders shall be in bell in SLC Loop of the fire alarm control panel.
The sounders shall have an output of 92 dB at 1 m.
The sounders shall be combined to use together with a flasher
The sounder shall operate at temperatures -20oC to +60oC.

2.3 CABLES:

A. All the cables used for the wiring for the signaling line circuit should fire rated
1.5mm 2 cables and 2.5mm2 for the notification appliance circuits.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

Supplier of the fire alarm system components, and the installation contractor must
have CIVIL DEFENCE approval.
Provide and install the system in accordance with the plans and specifications, all
applicable codes and the manufacturer's recommendations. All wiring shall be
installed in strict compliance with all the provisions of NEC - Article 760 A and C,
Power-Limited Fire Protective Signaling Circuits or if required may be reclassified as
non-power limited and wired in accordance with NEC-Article 760 A and B. Upon
completion, the contractor shall so certify in writing to the owner and general
contractor.

All junction boxes shall be sprayed red and labeled "Fire Alarm". Wiring color code
shall be maintained throughout the installation.

Installation of equipment and devices that pertain to other work in the contract shall be
closely coordinated with the appropriate subcontractors.

The contractor shall clean all dirt and debris from the inside and the outside of the fire
alarm equipment after completion of the installation.

The manufacturer's authorized representative shall provide onsite supervision of


installation.

3.2 TESTING

A. The completed fire alarm system shall be fully tested in accordance with NFPA-72H
and EN54 by the contractor in the presence of the owner's representative and the
Local Fire Marshal. Upon completion of a successful test, the contractor shall so
certify in writing to the owner and general contractor.

3.3 WARRANTY

A. The contractor shall warrant the completed fire alarm system wiring and equipment to
be free from inherent mechanical and electrical defects for a period of one (1) year
from the date of the complete and certified test or from the date of first beneficial use.

B. The equipment manufacturer shall make available to the owner a maintenance


contract proposal to provide a minimum of two (2) inspections and tests per year in
compliance with NFPA-72H guidelines

3.4 TRAINING

A. Provide the services of a factory-authorized service representative to demonstrate the


system and train Owner's maintenance personnel.
