Due Date:
Once background work is completed, students will record information in point form to
be used later in preparing their first Social Studies presentation. They will research the
following for their presentation:
location of the region
population
transportation
natural resources
industries
major bodies of water
physical characteristics
climate
cities
political divisions
Using the information collected the students will create a presentation to share what
they have learned. The presentation will be accompanied with an oral component.
Presenters should be prepared to answer questions from their audience.
The presentation should include the following:
Title Page
Table of contents
Map of Canada with region highlighted
Map of region showing political divisions
Physical features
Population
Transportation
Natural resources
Industries
Climate (graphs)
Appropriate graphics
Comparison:
After all presentations have been made, students will compare their region to one
other region of their choice and complete a Venn Diagram demonstrating the
similarities and differences between the two regions.
Role of Environment:
Each student will write a paragraph describing how environment plays a role in
determining where and how people in Canada live.
Each student will construct a bar graph to show the population of major cities in each
region. They will attempt to give reasons for the variation in population between
regions.
Students will identify reasons why modes of transportation differ between the regions.
