Assignment Due Date


(Every other Thursday)
1. Draw a coffee mug or another type of round container. Draw the container Sept. 15
so that it looks like it has dimension. Pay attention to shading and shadows.
Dont forget the horizon line.
2. Draw your favorite dessert. Make sure that you are looking at the actual Sept. 29
dessert or a photo of the dessert. Make the composition interesting by placing
objects around the dessert (glass of milk, fork or spoon, pie with a piece
missing, etc.) Make the dessert have dimension by showing lots of values and
shadows. Dont forget your horizon line. Color optional (colored pencil only)
3. Choose three items that are round and have something in common to draw Oct. 13
as a still life. Place them in an arrangement that is interesting to look at. So
that they are grouped together. Objects to consider are sports equipment
(basketball, tennis ball and soccer ball; fruits apples and oranges, pears or
strawberries) Show dimension through shading so that the objects look like
spheres and NOT circles. Dont forget shadows and a horizon line. Fill the
page.
4. Choose three items that mean something to you or a family member. The Oct. 27
items should tell the viewer something about the person. (ex: if your mom
loves to read and drink coffee and also loves fresh flowers, you might choose a
coffee pot or mug, a book and a vase with flowers) Color optional (colored
pencil only)
5. Draw your favorite chair to rest in. This might be a recliner, a bean bag Nov. 3
chair, a gaming, round, dorm chair. Notice the negative space around the chair.
Draw the chair so that it looks like you could sit on it without sliding off.
6. Draw a portrait of a person that you love. This could be a friend, a family Nov. 16
member, a hero, etc. Have the person model or pose for you or draw from a
photograph. If you are drawing from a photo, attach the photo in your
sketchbook if possible. (graphite pencil ONLY no color!)
7. Draw something that you are thankful for. This might be a person, an Dec. 1
animal or an object. If possible draw from observation or a photograph.

8. Draw a grouping of holiday decorations or packages. Group the decorations Dec. 15
on packages in a grouping that is interesting to look at and draw from
observation. (colored optional colored pencils only)

Things to REMEMBER!

Required:
Spend a minimum of 45 minutes on each sketch. Im looking for your very best effort
and am always looking for a range of values ! Avoid letting outlines show.

Sketches must be in your sketchbook/bound in your sketch folder.


Include a paragraph explaining what you did and why (make legible). Describe
the process, how you feel about it and any questions or thoughts you may have
about it. Avoid making obvious statements. Ex. I drew a coffee pot. Do not write the
paragraph ON the drawing separate sheet of paper.
Each drawing assignment is worth 100 points.
Drawings will be accepted a maximum of one day late for 10 points off.
We will self-evaluate using the rubric below for assignments 1-7 together in class.
This will help guide you as to what the teacher looks for in a drawing. Each drawing
should show visible progress.
Drawing #8 will be graded by the teacher only.
