NCD SITUATION IN ILOCOS REGION
LIFESTYLE-RELATED DISEASES INCLUDING HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF SENIOR CITIZENS
PROGRAM
- LRDS ARE TOP KILLERS COMPRISING MORE THAN 50%OF ALL DEATHS
- ____% OF ALL NCD DEATHS ARE HAPPENING BEFORE THE AGE OF 70
- LRDS CAN CAUSE VARIOUS COMPLICATIONS AND CAN LEAD TO DISABILITY
- MANAGEMENT OF NCDS CAN BE COSTLY AND CAN WORSEN POVERTY
- LRDS WILL LIKELY TO CONTINUE AS A PRIORITY PUBLIC HEALTH PROBLEM BECAUSE
OF CONTINUOUSLY HIGH PREVALENCE RISK FACTORS: PREVALENCE OF SMOKING
AMONG ADULTS MORE THAN 20 YEARS OLD IS 26.5%, HIGHER THAN THE NATIONAL
RATE WHICH IS 25.4%; OVERWEIGHT AND OBESITY AMONG ADULTS IS 27.3%;
OVERWEIGHT AMONG CHILDREN IS ALSO AN EMERGING CONCERN; HYPERTENSION
AMONG ADULTS IS 23.3% HIGHER THAN THE NATIONAL RATE; PREVALENCE OF
DIABETES AMONG ADULTS IS 4.0%
MENTAL HEALTH INCLUDING SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROGRAM

IN REGION 1 WERE 14.9 PER 100,000 POPULATION IN 2011, AND 12.1 PER 100, 000
POPULATION IN 2012.
- DROWNING IS ALSO REPORTED AS AN EMERGING CONCERN. DROWNING DEATHS
WAS REPORTED TO BE 4.7 PER 100,000 POPULATION IN 2011 HIGHER THAN THE
NATIONAL AVERAGE (3.9%).
- IN 2012, DROWNING DEATHS WAS 4.6 PER 100,000 POPULATION, HIGHER THANTHE
NATIONAL AVERAGE WHICH WAS 3.5 PER 100,000 POPULATION
- DEATHS DUE TO ASSAULTS IN REGION 1 WAS 10.8 PER 100,000 POPULATION 2011
AND 8.5 PER 100,000 POPULATION IN 2012

VISION: A region free from noncommunicable diseases with people of all ages enjoying good health

MISSION:Toensure equitable, sustainable and accessible quality NCD package of interventions


andoptimum multisectoral approach towards better health outcomes for all people of Region 1

GOALS:

1. LIFESTYLE-RELATED DISEASES PROGRAM*

To reduce by 10% the premature deaths due to most common avoidable NCDs
To reduce the prevalence of NCD risk factors
- To reduce by 15% the prevalence of tobacco useamong adults 20 years old
- To halt the prevalence of overweight/obesity among adults20 years old
- To reduce by 10% the prevalence of hypertension among adults20 years old
- To halt the prevalence of diabetes among adults20 years old

To promote health and well-being, and improve access to health services forpersons

OBJECTIVES:

1. To sustain the priority accorded to the prevention and control of NCDs in Region 1
2. To strengthen multisectoral actions for the prevention and control of NCDs

3. To reduce avoidable risk factors and strengthen prevention initiatives for NCDs

4. To strengthen health systems especially at the primary health care level

5. To promote and support research and development for the prevention and control of NCDs

6. To monitor progress and evaluate results in the prevention and control of NCDs

OBJECTIVE 1: To sustain the priority accorded to the prevention and control of NCDs in Region 1
