About Friends of UNESCO HK

Friends of UNESCO HK aims to provide our donors and supporters information about UNESCO Hong Kong Association (UNESCO HK).
Their understandings of the programmes and activities under the purview of UNESCO HK will contribute to the UNESCO movement
in achieving our goals effectively and efficiently.

The Beginning

UNESCO HK was founded in 2011 as a member of the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in China.
UNESCO HK is a non-governmental organization and a charitable institution under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance (IRD
Ref No. 91/10053).

Our Achievements

In the past five years, UNESCO HK has been focusing on promoting Intangible Cultural Heritage, peace and sustainable development. At
the same time, we have been participating in international forums and youth exchange programmes.
More than 100 activities and exchange programmes have been organized with over 80,000 participants, reaching out to over 500,000
people in Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas.

Culture & Peace Programme 2012-2013


Peace for All Programme

Since 2012, our Culture & Peace Programme has attracted about
5,000 participants each year, including teachers and students
from local and international schools, a long list of consulates,
international and community organizations. Schools and
community organizations have joined to promote the culture of
peace through various exhibitions, workshops and performances.

China World Intangible Cultural Heritage


Student Exhibition & Performance


China World Intangible Cultural Heritage Student Exhibition &
Performance was organized on 18 Dec, 2011. Through cross
boundary collaboration, students recognized different world's
intangible cultural heritage of China as well as the value of local
culture and heritage.

The Development of Confucian Education in the 21st Century

UNESCO Hong Kong Association, International Confucian Association, Macau Millennium College and School of Chinese of HKU jointly
organized an academic conference on Teaching Confucianism in the 21st Century in Jan 2012.

ESD Learning Programme

The objective of the ESD Learning Programme is to enhance 8


students' sensitivity to sustainable living practices. This is an
inter-school collaborative learning programme with students
undertaking group-based project in selected areas that supports

ESD Student Forum & Exchange Summer Institute take place
in summer holidays each year. They provide students and
teachers opportunities to understand the theme of sustainable
development. They also facilitate students to strengthen their

U8 Exchange Programme
U8
U8 was initiated by UNESCO Clubs and Associations in eight
different provinces and cities in China. The Programme gave
teachers and educators from Hong Kong and China a means to
exchange and share experiences.

UNEP-DHI Eco Challenge Programme


Science

UNEP-DHI Eco-Challenge is a real time, simulation game for water
resource management that encourages a deeper understanding
towards city planning and water conservation. In 2014, the Hong
Kong winning team won the international competition out of 11
Asia Pacific contesting teams.

Caretakers of the Environment
International (CEI) Conference

CEI Conference is an international youth forum. Hundreds of
youth from around the world join together every year to share
environmental concerns. UNESCO HK, as CEI Hong Kong Branch,
promotes and facilitates students from Hong Kong to attend
the conference. UNESCO HK had arranged students to travel to
Netherlands (2012), Scotland (2013), Taiwan (2014) and Denmark
(2016) for the conference.

UNESCO HK supported the annual Technology Olympics
organised by the St Bonaventure Catholic Primary School. It is
an inter-school water rocket launching competition to promote
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) education.

Aims & objectives


Eco Challenge is a global game-based learning programme
(developed by UNEP-DHI Center) which aims to raise

awareness of the importance and challenges of managing
limited water resources in the face of rapid economic
development worldwide. This is the 3rd competition in
Hong Kong.
