CSS ( Cyclic Steam Stimulation ) is used for natural reservoir energy by make the oil smaller in
thickness so it will more easy to going through the geological formations and reach the
injection/production wells. It can also be used as a single-well procedure.

To make practical and effective use of this enhanced oil recovery (EOR) method, steam is injected
into wells that have been drilled or converted for injection purposes. The wells are then shut in to let
the steam to heat or soak the producing formation around the well. After enough time has elapsed
to allow for acceptable quality of heating, the injection wells are back in production until the heat is
consumed with the produced fluids.

This cycle of soak-and-produce is known commonly as huff-and-puff. This cycle can be repeated
until the response becomes insignificant because of declining natural reservoir pressure and
increased water production. After reached this stage, a continuous steamflood is then initiated to
continue the heating and thinning of the oil and to replace declining reservoir pressure so that
production may continue.
