2015 fees for continuing
students
Smart and Skilled
Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW
vocational education and training system. It will
give people the chance to gain the skills they need
to get a job and advance their career.
From 1 January 2015 students commencing
government subsidised courses will have new fee
and student eligibility arrangements. Approved
training providers will have new subsidy
arrangements and contract requirements.
From 2015 fees will be calculated for the whole
qualification rather than the current practice of
paying by the year.
Existing students who continue their training in
2015 will also have new fee arrangements,
depending on whether their course is on the NSW
Skills List.
Smart and Skilled fee arrangements for
students continuing in 2015
Students who commenced a government
subsidised course before 1 January 2014 will be
able to continue their studies in 2015 and will pay a
proportion of the new Smart and Skilled course
based fee from 2015.
Students commencing a government subsidised
course after 1 January 2014 will continue to be
subsidised in 2015 if their course is included on the
2014 NSW Skills List. These students will pay a
proportion of the new course based fee in 2015.
Continuing students whose course is not included

fees to continue training in 2015.
For continuing subsidised students who are eligible
for fee concession and government subsidy in 2015
there will be pro-rata concession fees, except for
Diploma students who commence after 1 July
2014.
From 2015, for commencing students Smart and
Skilled individual eligibility requirements will apply
(eg. students with a previous Certificate IV or
above are not eligible for a subsidised Certificate II
or III, except for apprenticeships or traineeships).
Students commencing before 1 January 2015 will
not need to meet these Smart and Skilled
requirements to be eligible for a subsidy.
Training providers will be required to inform
students continuing to 2015 of the new fee and
eligibility arrangements.

Subsidies will be paid to training providers for
eligible students continuing in 2015 at the rate paid
when the student commenced training.
