Objective: natural volcanic ashes particles from volcanic lava soil occurring in the Canary Islands were

used as photocatalyst and as support for nanostructured TiO2 powder.

Gap of Knowledge: using the volcano ashes and TiO2 from others sources to produce as good as the
photocatalytic activity from this paper for oxidation of aqueous ammonia

PHOTOOXIDATION OF AQUEOUS AMMONIA USING

PHOTOCATALYST TiO2 MODIFIED SIO2 VOLCANIC ASHES
Titanium dioxide has been widely used in the photocatalytic process due to the excellent
properties such as high production of hydroxyl radicals, inexpensive, non-toxic and having
physical and chemical stability, and its crystal structure [1]. In general, TiO2 has three crystal
forms namely, anatase, rutile, and brookite. The phase transformation of TiO2 depends on the
calcinations temperature and dopant. As known, anatase or the mixture phase of anatase and
rutile show the highest photocatalytic activity. Anatase with large surface area, high crystallinity
and nanoscaled crystallite size exhibits a high photocatalytic activity.
