INTRODUCTION

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This Deptholog user's manual explains the basic procedures for using the
'Deptholog' alone or in connection with pressure, temperature and flow
measurement with any Metrolog downhole recorder.

It includes 4 parts:

- Deptholog description and specifications

- Programming the Deptholog
- Deptholog operation
- Deptholog analysis

Using the Deptholog supposes a good knowledge of MetroWin software.

It is also supposed that the use of the Metrolog downhole recorders and
their technical characteristics are known and well understood. For more
reference, see the 'General documentation for pressure and temperature
electronic downhole memory gauges', 'Metrowin software' and 'Multi
Job Report software' manuals.

Warning If necessary, signs like this will be used to call the user's attention on an
important point.

DEPTHOLOG DESCRIPTION and SPECIFICATIONS

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Deptholog is a depth encoder and recorder for slickline operations. It

can be used alone but will offer all its features and power when used in
conjunction with a Metrolog downhole recorder (AMEtrolog, CGM,
TAMEtrolog, Flolog or Multilog).

The Deptholog includes a GTI+PM which, in this manual, is supposed to

be known, built-in the same field case. The cover of this field case can be
removed for easier access. Simply pull sideways the cover towards the
left to remove it from the hinges.

The Deptholog cover allows to store:

- the GTI+PM cable, used to connect the GTI+PM to a gauge
- the RS232 cable, used to connect the Deptholog to the computer
- the power cable, which is used to connect the Deptholog to the main AC
power either for running it or for recharging the internal battery.

The front panel is made of two parts to clearly separate the two devices:
- GTI+PM which will not be described here. Please refer to the 'General
documentation for pressure and temperature electronic downhole
memory gauges' manual for the description of these functions.
- the Deptholog and the Adjust & alarm Module (called AM).

(Figure 1 - Deptholog front panel)

Deptholog functions Deptholog On/Off switches the Deptholog On only if the GTI+PM is
not in use;
switches it Off after the key has been pushed
twice (a message asks for this confirmation to
prevent accidental stop).

Zero brings the display of Depth back to zero if the

depth is not more than 20 m or 60 ft (this is a
safety feature to prevent accidental reset).

Warning It is always possible to reset to zero the depth display even if the depth
is higher than 20 m or 60 ft by pressing at the same time the 'Program
Validation' key of the GTI+PM and the 'Zero' key of the Deptholog.

AM functions Adjust allows to enter in the programming mode to

modify the main programming parameters,
the alarm levels or the depth display;
allows to validate the changes to the
programming parameters or to the depth display
after the key has been pushed twice (a message
asks for this confirmation).

- during operation, time-marks the beginning of a

gradient stop and starts the automatic timer;
after the 'Adjust' key has been pressed,
modifies the depth display upwards;
after the 'Alarm program' key has been pressed,
allows to scroll down through the already
programmed alarms.

+ during the Deptholog starting sequence, allows to

check the main programming parameters which
are displayed sequentially;
during operation, time-marks the beginning of a
Flolog calibration pass;
after the 'Adjust' key has been pressed,
modifies the depth display downwards.
after the 'Alarm program' key has been pressed,
allows to scroll up through the already
programmed alarms.

Dummy run stops the recording of the depth data;

starts it again when pressed again.

Alarm On/Off switches the alarms On or Off if this is allowed

by the PC programming.

Alarm program allows to enter in the alarm programming mode;

returns to the normal recording mode when
pressed again.

Deptholog display Depth during normal operation, displays the depth in

the unit selected (m or ft);
during the Deptholog starting sequence, displays
the main programming parameters;
after the 'Alarm program' key has been pressed,
displays the depth of the programmed alarms.

Speed during normal operation, displays the speed in

the unit selected (m/mn or ft/mn);
during the Deptholog starting sequence, displays
the value of the main programming parameters;
after the 'Alarm program' key has been pressed,
displays the name of the programmed alarms.

If the 'Recording' LED is On, the 'Dummy run' LED is Off and vice versa.

Vocal messages In addition to the vocal messages emitted by the GTI+PM, the
Deptholog emits four specific messages:

"Press key again to confirm" Emitted after the 'Zero', 'Adjust' or

'Deptholog On/Off' key has been pressed
to request confirmation

"Unauthorized function" Emitted when pressing the 'Zero' key if

the depth is more than 20 m or 60 ft

"Memory full" Emitted when the Deptholog memory is full

"Already programmed" Emitted if the user tries to program an

already programmed alarm

Alarm beeps An alarm beep is emitted when the depth gets close from a programmed
depth alarm. The distance from the start of the beep to the depth of the
alarm is programmable.

An alarm beep (with a higher emission rate) is emitted if the speed is

higher than the programmed speed alarm.

PROGRAMMING the DEPTHOLOG

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Even if the Deptholog does not need to be-reprogrammed for a new

operation since its programming parameters are usually kept the same
from an operation to another, its memory needs to be erased from time
to time in order to recover its full memory capacity. And the only way to
erase its memory is to re-program it.

Warning Programming the Deptholog erases the data already recorded in it.
Before programming it, be sure its last data have been read and saved.

Deptholog programming

1 Connect the PC to the Deptholog through its RS232 cable. If it is

not On, switch it On by pressing the 'Deptholog On/Off' key.

2 From Windows, start the 'MetroWin' software by double-

clicking on its icon:
the main window 'MetroWin' opens

3 In the 'Units' sub-menu of the 'Configuration' menu, check that the

'Unit' selected is as required. See 'Metrowin' manual.

Stop and test 4 Click on :

after a few seconds, the tool status appears on the screen:
its status (number, clock time and remaining memory),
its current programming and the current depth reading.

Check that the indications are correct.

Clock programming If needed, click on to reset the Deptholog internal clock:

the 'Set Tool Clock' window appears

If required, change the date and time and click on :

after a few seconds, the software informs that the clock reset
has been successful

Click on then on .

Editing the programming parameters

5 Click on : the screen 'Tool Programming' appears.

6 If required, set the locks:

- the 'AM' button locks all AM functions, thus preventing any
adjustment or any re-programming from the Deptholog keys: the
Deptholog will record continuously when it is On, all alarms will
be On and depth calibration in the well will not be possible.
- the 'Dummy Runs' button prevents the activation of the 'Dummy
run' key: the Deptholog will record continuously when it is On.
- the 'Alarms' button locks the 'Alarm On/Off' and the 'Alarm
program' keys: the user will not be able to modify nor to deactivate
the alarms.

7 In the 'Wire Lines' area, enter the diameter (in inches) of the
most currently used lines in your area and select the line size to
be used for the next job, by clicking the button at its right.

Note: During the Deptholog starting sequence, this selected line

size will be displayed as a reminder. If required, it will be
possible to modify it from the Deptholog keys.

8 In the 'Speed Alarms' area, select if the alarms are On or Off by

clicking on the 'On' button. If it is On, enter the maximum speeds
at which the speed alarms will sound:
'Record' maximum speed when running electronic tools
'Dummy' maximum speed when running only slickline tools

9 In the 'Depth Alarms' area, select if an alarm will beep when,

while pulling out from the well, the tool string is getting closer
from the surface by clicking the 'Zero' button.
Select if alarms will beep at different depths by clicking the 'At
Depth' button. If this option is selected, a table appears with up to
8 depths to be entered. Enter each depth alarm as required.

Warning Since an alarm should start beeping before reaching the programmed
depth, it is advisable to program a distance between the desired depth and
the alarm start. This distance can be entered in the 'Delta' field. For
example, if an alarm has been programmed at 1000 m, entering a 'Delta'
of 20 m will start the alarm at 980 m when running in and at 1020 m
when pulling out.

The alarm system supposes that the operator stops at the alarm depth. In
this case and as per the above example, the alarm starts beeping at 980
m while running in and continues beeping until the operator stops. After
the complete stop, if the operator resumes running in again, the alarm
doesn't beep anymore (until the next alarm depth).
If the operator doesn't stop, the alarm will beep from 980 m to 1020 m
without interruption.

PROGRAMMING the DEPTHOLOG

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10 In the 'Gradient Steps' area, it is possible to program an automatic

timer that will start counting when the operator press the '-' key
on the AM. This timer appears on the GTI side in place of the real
time clock and has two functions:
- it times the duration of a gradient step. At the end of the step, the
Deptholog beeps to tell the user that he can resume his operation.
- it automatically records the start time of the gradient step in the
Deptholog memory, for an automatic treatment of the gradient
survey.
The duration of a gradient step should be entered in minutes in the
'Duration' field.
The part of a gradient step that will be taken into account by the
automatic gradient reports to calculate the step average pressure
and average temperature should be entered in the 'Recording' field.

Warning During a gradient survey, the gauge temperature changes between each
gradient step. At each step, the pressure and the temperature read by the
gauge may takes some time to stabilize due to these temperature changes.
The pressure and temperature measurements to be taken into account for
calculating the gradient may thus not be the average pressure and the
average temperature of the complete gradient step.
Generally, the gradient survey interpretation is based on the last part of
each gradient step, assuming that, at that time, the gauge temperature
and thus its measurements were stabilized.
For example, for the automatic gradient calculation during the posterior
data treatment, in order to average the pressure and temperature
measured during the last 5 minutes of a 15 minutes gradient step, enter:
-15 minutes in the 'Duration' field and
- 5 minutes in the 'Recording' field.

11 In the 'Wheels' area, enter the diameter (in the unit selected) and
a name for the most currently used slick line measuring wheels in
your area and select the wheel size to be used for the next job, by
clicking the button at its right.

Note: During the Deptholog starting sequence, this selected wheel

name will be displayed as a reminder. If required, it will be
possible to modify it from the Deptholog keys.

Warning The wheel name is only needed for display during the Deptholog starting
sequence to inform the user of the wheel selected for depth calculation.
Use easy-to-remember names or mnemonics for easier reference in the
field. The list of characters usable for a wheel name is:
"0123456789AEFHLOSTUWYbdintu'

programming parameters have not been changed, programming is
compulsory in order to clear the memory for the next operations.

12 Click on then on
various messages appears on the screen;
after a few seconds, the Deptholog beeps and switches Off;
the message "Tool successfully programmed" appears in a
window on the screen

13 Click on :
the Deptholog is stopped and ready to be used.

14 Disconnect it from the PC.

Warning All Metrolog downhole memory tools start automatically at the end of the
programming sequence based on the assumption that, if a tool is being
programmed, it means that the user wants to run it.
The Deptholog works differently and is stopped at the end of the
programming sequence. Being a surface tool, the Deptholog can be started
and stopped at any time by the operator and its functioning can also be
checked at any time. There is thus no reason to start it by default.

DEPTHOLOG OPERATION

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following procedure describes how to perform a complete operation

with a downhole memory gauge run in combination with the Deptholog.
The purpose of this procedure is to create two sets of data:

- pressure, temperature and/or flow versus time, recorded by the

downhole gauge,

- depth versus time, recorded by the Deptholog.

These two sets of data will be read by the PC at the end of the operation
to allow an automatic merge of the files in order to produce a pressure,
temperature and/or flow versus depth report.

Job preparation The following equipment is needed to perform a combined operation:

- the downhole memory gauge: AMEtrolog, TAMEtrolog, CGM, Flolog or
Multilog with its battery installed,
- the Deptholog with either its internal battery fully charged or
connected to a power source,
- the Deptholog connecting cable to the slick line winch (screwdriver
type) which connects to a T below the Veeder-Root counter for example.

The Deptholog must be switched Off for the procedure to start. The
GTI+PM side will not work if the Deptholog is On.

Downhole gauge programming and start

Programming the gauge with the GTI+PM side of the Deptholog is

extensively covered in other manuals and is supposed to be known.
The procedure below describes only part of the options offered to the
user and shows the simplest case.

1 Connect the Deptholog to the gauge and tight the HPC connector bolt.

2 Push the "Stop & test gauge" key:

the GTI+PM switches On,
the message "Sd by" (Stand-by) flashes;
after a few seconds, the GTI+PM displays the current
programming, the gauge statistics, the battery type and
remaining life and the current sensors readings

3 Check that the indications are correct.

To program the gauge with new programming parameters and start a job

4 Select the desired scanning rate by pushing the "Scanning rate"

key.

5 Select the desired delay by pushing the "Delay" key.

6 If available, select the desired pressure start option by pushing

the "Threshold Trigger" key. The GTI+PM displays:
0 for no pressure start
1 for pressure threshold
2 for pressure trigger

According to the new programming, the 'Battery left' value in days

is displayed for a well temperature of 100 C.

7 Push the "Program validation" key:

the green LED "OK" flashes
the vocal message "Push key again to confirm programming"
is emitted

8 Push again the "Program validation" key (within 5 seconds):

the message "Sd by" (Stand-by) flashes;
after a few seconds, the GTI+PM displays the current
programming, the gauge statistics and the current readings;
the green LED's "Gauge On" and "OK" turn On
the vocal message "The gauge is On" is emitted

9 Disconnect the Deptholog from the gauge:

after a few seconds the GTI+PM switches Off automatically

The downhole gauge is now acquiring data (or waiting if it has been
programmed with a delay or a pressure start). It can be assembled to the
slick line string.

Note 1: The date and time of the gauge start (taken from the Deptholog
real time clock) has been recorded in the gauge memory. There is no
need to remember it.
Note 2: The gauge has detected that it was started by a Deptholog and has
recorded the Deptholog serial number.
Note 3: The Deptholog has also detected that it started the gauge and has
recorded the gauge serial number as well as its start date and time.

All the above has been recorded even if the gauge has not been
reprogrammed but just re-started (with the previous programming
parameters).

DEPTHOLOG OPERATION

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Modifying a programming parameter during the starting sequence

This procedure is available only if the 'AM' lock has not been set to On
during the Deptholog programming with the PC.
To modify a programming parameter during the starting sequence,
before pushing the '+' key which validates it:

1 Push the 'Adjust' key:

the parameter name flashes

2 Push the '+' or the '-' key to scroll trough all the available
options. When the required parameter value is displayed, push the
'Adjust' key:
the parameter name stops flashing

3 Push the '+' key to display the next programming parameter.

Warning Every time a programming parameter is changed, the Deptholog creates

a new job. This new job will appear as a separate line on the PC screen.
The new programming parameters will only affect the new job (and the
next jobs if nothing is changed). Previous jobs are not affected by the
changes of course and use the previous programming parameters.

Zero reset To reset the depth display to zero (at the same time than the operator
resets the mechanical counter to zero), push the 'Zero' key.

The reset to zero is only possible if the depth displayed is less than 20 m
or 60 ft. This is a safety feature to prevent any accidental reset.

Warning Every time the depth display is reset to zero, the Deptholog creates a
new job. This new job will appear as a separate line on the PC screen.

Warning There is no reason for the depth display not to be close to zero when the
string is at surface. However, this could happen if the operator switches
the Deptholog Off while the slick line string is in the well and forgets to
switch it On again.
In this case, it is possible to reset to zero the depth display even if the
depth is higher than 20 m or 60 ft by pressing at the same time the
'Program Validation' key on GTI+PM side and the Deptholog 'Zero' key.

Warning It is possible to force the Deptholog to create a new job, without

resetting to zero nor changing the programming parameters, by
pressing at the same time the 'Program Validation' and the 'Start Gauge'
keys on GTI+PM side. This procedure has only limited use and should be
kept for emergency purposes only.

Display and modification of the alarm programming

This procedure is available only if the 'AM' and the 'Alarms' locks have
not been set to On during the Deptholog programming with the PC and
when the speed is zero (the slick line winch is stopped).

To display the programmed alarms:

1 Push the 'Alarm program' key to enter the alarm programming

mode:
the first depth alarm value appears in the 'Depth' display;
the first alarm name, 'AL1', appears in the 'Speed' display.

2 Push the '+' or the '-' key to scroll through all already
programmed alarms:
each depth alarm value appears in the 'Depth' display;
its name appears in the 'Speed' display.

Note: if an alarm is not programmed, '99999' appears on the 'Depth'

display and its name appears on the 'Speed' display'.

To modify a programmed alarm, when the alarm is on display:

3 Push the 'Adjust' key:

the alarm name flashes

4 Push the '+' or the '-' key to modify the alarm depth:
the depth display changes

5 When the required alarm depth is displayed, push the 'Adjust' key:
the vocal message "Press key again to confirm" is emitted

6 Push the 'Adjust' key again:

the alarm name stops flashing

7 Push the 'Alarm program' key to exit from alarm programming

mode

Note: When exiting from the alarm programming mode, the alarms are
automatically set to On and the 'Alarm On/Off' green LED switches On.

DEPTHOLOG OPERATION

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dummy run mode This procedure is available only if the 'AM' and the 'Dummy Runs' locks
have not been set to On during the Deptholog programming with the PC.

The dummy run mode allows to perform all Deptholog functions without
recording the depth and thus saving memory space.

Typically it could be used to run a gauge cutter before the actual

measurement operation. Since all Deptholog functions are still available
in this mode, this run can be used for depth correlation and calibration
in the well as per the procedure described below.

When the 'Recording' green LED is On, to enter in the dummy run mode:

1 Push the 'Dummy run' key:

the 'Recording' green LED switches Off;
the 'Dummy run' yellow LED switches On;
depth data are no more recorded.

To exit from the dummy run mode

2 Push the 'Dummy run' key:

the 'Recording' green LED switches On;
the 'Dummy run' yellow LED switches Off;
the Deptholog resume recording depth data.

Warning A common mistake will be to switch the Deptholog to the dummy run
mode for a gauge cutter run and to forget to switch back to recording
mode for the actual operation. There is nothing to prevent that mistake.
The only precaution is that every time the Deptholog is switched On, the
recording mode is selected by default.

DEPTHOLOG OPERATION page 15
Metrolog Deptholog USER's MANUAL

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DEPTHOLOG OPERATION

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Depth correlation and calibration

Due to operational factors, the depth displayed and thus recorded by the
Deptholog may be different from the actual depth of the tool string in the
well. This can be due to:
- wrong wheel diameter due to programming error or to wheel erosion,
- slippage of the slick line on the measuring wheel,
- stretch of the slick line due to string weight and friction in the well,
- etc...

The Deptholog allows to "calibrate" the depth in the well by correlation

to a known depth, for example: tubing end, nipple nogo, X-over, etc...

This procedure is available only if the 'AM' lock has not been set to On
during the Deptholog programming with the PC and when the speed is
zero (the slick line winch is stopped).

After having reached a known depth, to correct the displayed depth:

1 Push the 'Adjust' key:

the depth value flashes

2 Push the '+' or the '-' key to adjust the depth as required. When
the required depth value is displayed, push the 'Adjust' key:
the vocal message "Press key again to confirm" is emitted

3 Push the 'Adjust' key again:

the depth value stops flashing

Note 1: The depth correlation can be done at any time during the
operation but it is logic to do it during the dummy run.

Note 2: The Deptholog calibration is more than a depth correction. It also

modifies the ratio used to convert the wheel rotation into depth. The
Deptholog thus returns to zero when the tool string is back to surface.

Note 3: Once calibrated, the Deptholog keeps its settings until the next
calibration.

DEPTHOLOG OPERATION

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Using the Deptholog for automatic gradient steps

If the Deptholog has been programmed with gradient steps duration and
recording, it is possible to automatically create gradient steps during
the operation. In addition, a timer will inform the user of the step end.

These gradient steps will be taken into account by the software, at the
time of data analysis, in order to create an automatic gradient report.

The duration of the gradient steps must have been programmed by PC for
the following procedure to work.

To create automatic gradient steps, after having started the gauge and the
Deptholog as per the above procedures:

1 Run the gauge in the well down to the depth of the first gradient
step as per the operational program.

2 Stop at the desired depth and wait for the 'Speed' display to be at 0
(the timer will not start if the speed is not at 0)

3 Push the '-' key:

the Deptholog beeps;
the real time clock (on the GTI+PM side) becomes a timer
which starts counting the time.

When the timer reaches 0:

the Deptholog beeps three times;
the timer becomes the real time clock again

4 Resume running in the well down to the next desired depth and
repeat the above points from 2 to 4 until the last gradient step has
been reached.

5 Pull the gauge out form the well and stop the operation as usual.

Warning If the operator resumes running the gauge without waiting for the end of
the timer and for the Deptholog beep, the automatic creation of the
gradient steps will not work. At data analysis, the end of the gradient
step will have to be entered manually.

Warning If the operator wants to resume running the gauge without waiting for
the end of the timer and for the Deptholog beep, he must push the '-' key.
This action cancels the timer and returns the Deptholog to normal
operation. At data analysis, the end of the gradient step will be the time
of the second push on the '-' key.

DEPTHOLOG OPERATION

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stopping the Deptholog

To stop the Deptholog:

1 Push the 'Deptholog On/Off' key:

the vocal message "Press key again to confirm" is emitted

2 Push the 'Deptholog On/Off' key again:

the Deptholog beeps then stops

The depth displayed when the Deptholog is stopped is recorded by the

Deptholog and will thus appear when it will be switched On again.

It is possible to stop the Deptholog at any time during an operation.

For example, if the gauge is run for a long build-up, the Deptholog can
be stopped, when the final depth has been reached, during the whole
duration of the build-up in order to save power.

Warning Stopping the Deptholog only saves power. There is no need to stop it to
save memory since its memory isn't used when the depth doesn't change.

Warning If the Deptholog has been stopped while the tool string is still in the
well, it is extremely important not to forget to start it again before the
string is pulled out from the well.

Reading all recorded data

1 Connect the PC to the Deptholog through its RS232 cable. If it is

not On, switch it On by pressing the 'Deptholog On/Off' key.

2 From Windows, start the 'MetroWin' software by double clicking

on its icon:
the main window 'MetroWin' opens

Reading the Deptholog 3 Click on :

various messages are displayed;
after a few minutes, the screen displays a window with:
the type and serial number of the tool
the number of measurements transferred and
the number of jobs detected.
The data transfer from the recorder to the PC is completed.

Deptholog data saving 4 Click on :

a "Save As" window appears

Enter the name that you want to give to the newly created file in
order to save it on the PC's hard disk. There is no need to enter the
'.D1W' extension, the software does it automatically. Click on 'OK':
the software saves data in the new file on the PC's hard disk

Warning At this point, the software prompts for the connection of the
downhole memory gauge(s) started with the above procedure (see
the paragraph "Downhole gauge programming and start" in this
chapter).

5 Disconnect the Deptholog from the PC.

Reading the downhole gauge

6 Connect the tool requested by the software to the PC through the

HPC interface cable (this procedure is supposed to be known).
various messages are displayed;
after a few minutes, the screen displays a window with:
the type and serial number of the tool
the number of measurements transferred and
the number of jobs detected.
The data transfer from the recorder to the PC is completed.

Downhole gauge data saving

7 Click on :
a "Save As" window appears

Enter the name that you want to give to the newly created file in
order to save it on the PC's hard disk. There is no need to enter the
'.P3W' or the '.F1W' extension, the software does it automatically.

Click on 'OK':
the software prompts for the depth correction between the
measuring point and the wireline zero reference

8 Enter the distance between the wireline zero reference and the
measuring point of downhole gauge.

Then click on :
the software saves data in the new file on the PC's hard disk
then the 'Tool successfully read' information window appears.

9 Click on :
the data reading and saving procedure is completed.

DATA ANALYSIS

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looking at the files

At this point, two separate data files have been created and saved on the
PC hard disk:

- a depth versus time file from the Deptholog, called for example:
DeptData.d1w

- a pressure, temperature and/or flow versus time from the

downhole gauge, called for example:
DownData.p3w

These two files are also loaded in to the PC RAM memory and are
available for analysis. To switch from one file to another, use the
summary window:

Click on :
the 'Summary' window appears with the list of open files

To display one of the files listed in the 'Summary' window, select it by

clicking on its line and click on Goto .

If the Deptholog file is selected, the window title becomes, for example:
'MetroWin- [ Deptholog - DeptData- Jobs]'

If the downhole gauge is selected, the window title becomes, for example:
'MetroWin- [ NameOfTool - DownData- Jobs]'

Both files can be analyzed separately as per the standard procedures

which will be found in the 'Metrowin software' manual or combined as
per the options offered by the 'Multi Job Report' software.

Report and plot of Deptholog data

A Deptholog file offers the same reporting and plotting capabilities than
a downhole tool file. There is no difference in its treatment. Please refer
to 'Metrowin software' manuals for more information.

Creation of automatic gradient steps

If the above procedures have been followed and a pressure recorder has
been run, it is possible to create automatic gradient steps:

1 In the 'Summary' window, select the pressure downhole recorder

file by double clicking on its name, which appears for example as:

Data NameOfTool-NumberOfTool Downdata.p3w

2 Click on Edit Steps :

the 'Edit Gradient Steps' window appears
Since this file has automatically be "linked" with a Deptholog
file, the option 'From Other Tool' is automatically selected in
the 'Type:' field and 'Deptholog' option is also automatically
selected in the 'From Tool Type' field.

Warning It is possible to import gradient steps from any other file created with
any other tool. This option is offered for the import of the steps from
another tool run in tandem with the tool being treated.
However, it is more usual to import the gradient steps from a Deptholog.

3 Select the required Deptholog file in the 'From Data File' field, for
example: DeptData.d1w

4 Select the required job from the selected file in the 'From Job'
field. From this window, it is possible to display the 'Job
Information' window by clicking on Job Info .

5 Check the 'Delta Depth' field.

6 Click on Edit ... :

the gradient steps appear as they have been recorded by the
Deptholog. Since both tools have the same time, the gradient
steps are automatically defined.

At this stage, it is still possible to edit the gradient steps, their

time and their description. When the editing is completed:

7 Click on , then on .
Data can now be printed and plotted as per standard procedures.
