REFRIGERATION

Freon-12 is used as a refrigerant in an ideal vapor

compression cycle with flow rate of 102.28 kg\hr. Freon
enters the evaporator at -20 oC with vapor fraction of
0.225 then it enters the compressor where its pressure
is raised to 567.3 kPa in a reversible adiabatic process
then enters a condenser to reject heat which has been
absorbed to the surrounding until saturation at 20 oC.

Use the ChemCAD simulation to calculate the COP (coff. of

performance) for this cycle.

STEAM POWER PLANT

Design a Steam Power plant based on Rankine cycle

using ChemCAD to meet the following specifications:

The steam leaves the boiler at 800k 7 6.5 MPa and

then it's fed to a turbine work with an efficiency of 75%

where it expands to 0.1 MPa. The steam is the

condensed until saturation then it is pumped to the

boiler.

Base your calculation on flow rate of 1kg/hr of steam to calculate:

- The amount of energy needed for the boiler & the pump.

- The power output of the turbine.

- The efficiency of the turbine needed to produce an

exhaust having a quality of 0.98 (The quality is the moisture

content of the steam).

THE REGENERATIVE CYCLE

Consider a regenerative cycle utilizing steam as the

working fluid of flow rate =1 Kg. Steam leaves the boiler
and enter the turbine at 7.5MPa, 500C. After expansion
to 1MPa 0.268 Kg 0f the steam is extracted from the
turbine for the purpose of heating the feed water in a
close feed water heater CFWH (heat exchanger).Where
no mixing takes place, the water leaving it is saturated
at 1MPa
The steam not extracted expands to 0.004MPa

Calculate the efficiency of the turbine.
