The topics covered in a course on dynamics vary according to the judgments of instructors and the
objectives of particular departments. Here we provide two curricula for basic courses that can be modified
to meet the requirements of individual programs. The first curriculum is for a course that covers planar
dynamics of rigid bodies. The second one is for a course that includes three-dimensional dynamics of
rigid bodies.

After covering two-dimensional rigid-body kinematics (Chapter 17), three-dimensional rigid-body kine-
matics are covered (Section 20.1). To avoid the need to derive the equations of motion twice, the Euler
equations are then covered in Section 20.2, which includes the derivation of the equations for planar motion.
Planar applications are covered next (Section 18.4), followed by three-dimensional applications (Sections
20.2 and 20.3).
