Me and My Story

Practice makes perfect those words echoed in my head as my father keep on telling
me. To be truthful, it started to annoy me. What did those words mean? I asked myself
again and again until it gave me a headache. To me those words meant nothing. They were just
words. Words that encouraged those who couldnt accomplish what they yearned to
accomplish in life. I never believed that the more you practice the better youll be. The reason
why they are so good at what theyre doing is because they were born to be talented I thought
stressfully to myself. But now I know what it meant.

Just as I came back from school, I wondered as to why my father was still watching
cartoons at his age. It was unusual to see. Bored as I was, I decided to watch whatever my
father was watching. On that day, I discovered something that would change my life forever. It
was Anime. I was fascinated by the way they drew it. The way they drew the eyes, the way
they drew the hair. Many things were in my mind as I watched together with my father that
unknowingly knew liked anime. I wish I could draw like that." a faint voice said inside. I then
searched the internet to know how to draw since my father had refused to teach me.

As I finished drawing and erasing continuously to get the right look that I wanted, I
showed it to my father as proud as a peacock. He remains silent with a blunt look on his face. I
questioned as to why he did so. After that I showed it to my brother and the comment he gave
me hurt like a knife stabbing through my chest. I felt like crying and giving up but my mother
always encouraged me to continue doing what I liked. So I said to myself I shouldnt give up so
early without actually trying. I wanted to get better. I need to get better. So, I decided to
practice every day. I would practice even if it took me 20 hours to draw that one picture. The
stronger the critics were, the stronger my determination grew to improve drawing. After years
of just practicing, drawing and drawing and experimenting on new styles, it struck me on how
much I have improved from years. Even my brother who had criticized me from back then was
shocked and happy like a proud brother should be.

From that day, I finally understood the meaning. Why my father keep on telling me the
same words over and over again. I realized that I wasnt born with a pencil on my hand; I wasnt
born knowing how to ride a bicycle. It takes years of practice, not just a day. And I am proud of
my drawing because it was something I had worked for so hard to achieve.

Second Chance

Please change, Sabrina, its not the first time I heard that sentence from Miss Diana for
the past few weeks. Either I behave badly or not, I will still get scolded. After recess, I have to
see the counselor everyday. The counselor gave me lots of advice but none of it stuck in my
head. Around 2 oclock, I went home on foot. When I reached home, the darkness greeted my
presence.

I switched on the lights and suddenly the room which was dark became bright. I walked
to my room and put my bag at the corner. I laid down on my bed and switched on the fan. As I
laid down exhaustedly, I thought about my conversation with Miss Diana yesterday. Sabrina,
you are a good girl. How come you changed? she asked. Im sorry, Miss Diana. Ill try to
change, I answered. How many times do you have to tell me the same thing? Miss Diana
asked , holding her patience. I was stunned. I admit, it was my fault to cause this mess. I was
not my own self when I saw someone being bullied. I hate bullies. This is your fifth fight,
Sabrina. What happened to you? asked the principal. This is your last chance. I hope youll
change after this she said. Her voice sounded concerned.

I merely felt on the floor when I was surprised by a knock at the front door. Welcome
home, mum, I greeted her with a forced smile on my face. Whats with you today?
