Some Problems and Objections to the Argument from Religious Experience

Arguments 5 to 8 mainly talk about doubts in believing whether or not religious

experiences do happen in real life.

The fifth objection speaks of the difficulty in confirming the religious experience
that a certain person may have felt or experienced. This objection doubts the
experience because it is difficult to validate whether or not the experience has really
happened and if it did, the only one who can confirm it is the person who have
experienced it and critics are not satisfied with only having one person to support to this
claim.
The sixth objection, meanwhile, talks about how many people do not really give
importance or make a big deal of these so called religious experiences. Studies have
been made that people may have already experienced it but only disregarded it
because they do not think that what happened to them was bizarre or strange enough to
be called as religious experience.
The seventh objection on the other hand tells us that in todays time, what people
may think as religious experience can now be treated as ordinary because it can
already be explained scientifically. Some people may claim that they are seeing or
feeling something extraordinary but scientists may argue that this can be a side effect
for some medications. Scientists of today can counter almost everything and explain it
with the help of science.
And lastly, the eight objection tells us that each one of us have different mind
sets and views about everything. Not everyone is compatible. Therefore, the reliability of
religious experience is quite questionable. The reason for this is that, people have
different beliefs in God. Some may believe that their God is Buddha, or some even
worship the nature. It makes the experience inconsistent and unreliable because of the
contrasting or different versions told by people from different religions.
