TASK 1: READING Read the following stories.

https://andreatibaduiza.wordpress.com/2013/04/27/my-first-experience/
My first Zumba Experience

I remember the first time my friend invited me to Zumba. She said I would
love it and that I would be good at it, so I decided to give it a shot, but she
was definitely wrong when she said I would be good (at first, anyway)

Lets start by saying that I was VERY excited for the fast-pace and energetic
music playing, but when the instructor began doing all the crazy steps
with minimal verbal cueing, I was lost and actually caught myself wanting
to do my own thing. Instead of trying to follow the instructor I was almost
doing what I thought would go with the music > BAD IDEA! Instructors are
instructors for a reason to guide students with the experience and
knowledge they have acquired. When I realized what I was doing wrong, I
forced myself to start following even if I couldnt get 100% of the steps.

Next, I was out of shape and I had the misconception that Zumba wouldnt
require much physical effort > WRONG!! I had to take a few breaks as this
class was kicking my butt! So if you go to a Zumba class and do it right,
which I really hope you do for your own sake, expect to sweat and feel the
intensity of a good workout; Zumba is a powerful and effective workout!

Lastly, it is important to know it takes time to become familiar with the

steps. Even though most instructors use common basic steps, you do not
become a pro overnight. Practice makes perfect; you can do it! I still have
a lot to learn, but I have learned and accomplished a lot over time. Now,
its your turn to go and try to master even just the most basic steps!

My First CrossFit Experience

http://www.healthy-liv.com/my-first-crossfit-experience/

Ive heard a lot about CrossFit over the past couple of years, but I didnt
have the chance to try it until this past weekend. I know lots of you have
heard of CrossFit and know what its all about, but for those who may not
have, its a type of relatively high intensity strength training workout done
at different CrossFit gyms.

My sister is an avid runner but shes been doing CrossFit for the past year
and has gotten seriously ripped, so I invited myself along to her workout on
Saturday morning. Im pretty unenthusiastic about lifting weights in
general, mostly because I really like exercising outside and I really
love running.

If I had to describe the experience in one word, Id say it was HUMBLING.

Id like to think Im in decent shape, but the burpee leap frogs (alternating
doing burpees with a partner and jumping sideways over your partner after
each one) and push presses with a barbell were killer. I was glad that
running was incorporated into the workout in the form of a 200 meter
burden run wearing a weighted vest or carrying a medicine ball because I
could look forward to the running parts almost as a break from the other
movements I wasnt used to doing.

Im definitely motivated to start going to more (free!) strength training

classes at the campus gyms, though, because Ive begun to see how
beneficial it is to get stronger. Ive actually been taking a weight training
P.E. class this semester and have been surprised by the fact that Ive
almost started to enjoy lifting weights. The class meets two days per week,
and once the semester ends, Im going to recruit a couple of gym buddies
to hit the gym a couple of times per week either for strength classes or
lifting weights.

And in the future, who knows? Maybe Ill be able to make CrossFit part of
my everyday routine. If youre interested in checking it out, Id definitely
recommend checking with a CrossFit near you to see if you can get a guest
pass!

Questions:

1. What do both stories have in common?

____________________________________________________________
2. In your opinion, which person is more likely to continue doing the
activity? Why?
___________________________________________________________
3. Based on these experiences, which activity would you like trying?
Why?

TASK 2
The origin of speed dating

The concept of speed-dating originated in Los Angeles, California in 1999. It

was invented by a rabbi to help singles in the Jewish community find a
partner. Originally singles were given eight minutes together, to make an
impression before moving on to the next potential partner. At the end of the
rotation they wrote down who was hot and who was not, and in the case of
a good match contact details were exchanged.
The concept was soon exported, and took off in London in 2000. The craze
soon spread all over the UK, and spawned Speed Dating Agencies and an
Internet Site for finding Mr. or Ms right. The eight minute limit is supposedly
based on science. It is the time required for our hormones to tell us
whether the person opposite us is a potential mate. In our increasingly busy
lives, where traditional courtship rituals are disappearing this time limit has
now been further reduced to only three minutes, about the same time it
takes us to brush our teeth.

Answer the questions:

1. Would you like to take part in this type of event? Why, why not?
____________________________________________________________
2. What type of questions would you ask? Give three examples.
____________________________________________________________
3. How would you introduce yourself? Describe yourself in three lines.
____________________________________________________________
4. Look at the peoples profile below and select the most interesting
person. Which one would you choose and why?

online-dating
Read the following abstract and answer the following questions
T/F:

It has long been seen as a less romantic way of meeting Mr Right. But
finding love over the internet is a good way of meeting a marriage partner,
research has showed. It found that one in five of those who have used
dating sites to find their perfect partner have gone on to marry someone
they met over the web.

The study, by consumer group Which?, also revealed that more than half of
the 1,504 people questioned had been on a date with someone they met in
cyberspace. Sixty-two per cent agreed that it was easier to meet someone
on a dating site than in other ways, such as in a pub or club, or through
friends. At the same time, the under-35s were more likely to know
someone who had been on a date or had a long-term relationship with
someone they met through online dating.

Jess Ross, editor of which.co.uk, said: 'Online dating is revolutionizing the

way people meet each other. Switching the computer on could be the first
step to success.'

According to industry surveys, more than 22 million people visited dating

websites in 2007, and more than two million Britons are signed up to
singles sites.

Of the 147 couples who took part in the study, 61 per cent said their
relationships had high levels of these three components. The researchers
also found that men were more likely to find true love on the internet than
women.

Dr Jeff Gavin, who led the team, said: 'To date, there has been no
systematic study of love in the context-of relationships formed via online
dating sites. 'But with the popularity of online dating, it is imperative we
understand the factors that influence satisfaction in relationships formed in
this way'.

Charlotte Harper, of Match.com, said: 'We were thrilled to find so many of

our former members have found love. 'It supports our belief that the
internet does in fact encourage old-fashioned courtship'.
