Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Program (SMSCP)

Hardware Requirements
For the SMSCP mechatronic training system

SMSCP partner schools must have a mechatronic training system on site.

For Level 1, this system has to include the following components:

Basic Electrical and Mechanical Components:

Electrical components
o Conductors, wires and terminal blocks
o Electrical power supplies (including transformer, rectifier, filter, voltage regu-
lator)
o Basic electrical components (e.g. resistors, potentiometers, capacitors, induc-
tors, diodes and transistors)
o Relays, contactors and solenoids
o Over current protection devices (fuses and circuit breakers)
o Sensors
Inductive- and capacitive sensors
Photoelectric sensors
Proximity and limit switches (mechanical, reed)
o Measuring devices (multimeters, oscilloscopes)
o DC motors and Control circuits
Direction control
Speed control

Mechanical components
o Chain, belt, and gear drives
o Bushings, bearings and gearboxes
o Clutches and brakes
o Conveyor belts, lifts, shuts and component storage
o Grippers, jaws and pivot devices
o Fasteners, supports and springs

Pneumatic/Hydraulic Components:
General pneumatic (hydraulic) components
o Pressure source (compressor/pump)
o Pressure regulation valve with filter and gauge
o Shut-off valve
Pneumatic (Hydraulic) actuators/cylinders
Pneumatic (Hydraulic) gating, valves and flow control
o Different DCV designs (e.g. 2/2-, 3/2-, 4/2-, 5/2-, 5/3-way)
o Flow control valves

PLC Components:
NOTE: PLC components have to be from Siemens! Series S7-300 or S7-1500

Personal Computer with PLC Editing software (e.g. SIMATIC S7, STEP7 Professional)
PC to PLC adapter
PLC Components:
o Power supply
o CPU
o Memory cards
o Digital in- and output modules
o Control Desk with (illuminated) pushbuttons, switches (n.o./n.c.) and indicators
