AC cables
un AC CARLES ARE MANUFACTURED WITH CONCENTRIC LAY DESIGN,
SUT ROPE LAY CABLES CAN ALSO SE MANUFACTURED UPON SPECIAL REQUEST.
THE CONSTRUCTION DETAILS OF THE CL CABLES ARE MENTIONED HEREUNDER:
Water hose
The water hase is made of synthetic rubber,
reinforced by nylon plies. ts mechanical
characteristics allows i 0 withstand severe
operating conditions:
service pressure of about 4 to 6 bars
torsion, traction and shearing stresses due
to the furnace movements
mechanical shock inside and outside, due
to electromagnetic stresses
heat radiation from the liquid steel bath
projection of molten metal
voltages up to 1200 V
The standard hose has an external cover
‘made of ant-abrasive and autoextngushable
‘material, but several kinds of protection can
be added to this, such as
rubber bumpers (clamped or vulcanized)
vuleanize glass fibre, aluminium sass fre
oove fagsinet radiation icone glacs bre
sleeve (against projections)
ant-chafing hose, fr both mechanical and
thermal protection
reinforcing sleeve, to strengthen the ends
against shearing stress
rotating joint, to relieve torsion stresses.
Of course, all our hoses are insulating, and
thelr insulation is tested before use. Unt
now a service voltage of 1000 is suficent
In many cases, but the hoses ae already
designed for service voltages as high as
2000 V, covering the future needs of power
Copper conductor
The conductor is made ofelectrotytically
refined tough pitch copper, with guaranteed
conduct.
ach wire has a clameter of 8 tam, seven
wires are stranded togheter to make the
hammered, inorder to give a cylindcal
shape). Then these strands ae disposed in
concentric layers, ensuring the best copper
Aistibation in @ minimum space
Rubber core
The core Is made of synthetic rubber I is
here to support the conductors lal around
it, and to keep them in the shape of a sort
of copper tube.
‘As itis connected to the terminals (oy means
ofthe differentia spring), I aso plays a role
In withstanding the stresses thatthe cable
is subject to
Differential spring
The action ofthis spring Is three-fold
ensuring the mechanical conection of the
rubber core tothe terminals
damping the cable movements inthe area
lose tothe terminals
ensuring a good water distibuton, allowing
the water toon trough the copper strands
towards the space between the conductor
and the water hoe
Fixing bands.
Made of non-magnetic stainless stel (for
protection against eddy current) they ensure
8 very tight clamping by means of stainless
steel locking buckles
Copper terminals
Made of the same material as the copper
conductor, they are connected to it by low
temperature brazing, which allows to use
them agaln when the cable Is damaged.
Rather than castor forged, they are made
by machining diferent parts that are
brazed together.
Their dimensions are calculated to ensure a
{good contact area (contact density = 0.7
‘Aim maximum)(ables range
Giving an exhaustive ist of the cables we
can manufacture woud be useless, because
the Concentric Lay design gives a very gest
umber of possibilities, by changing the
umber of strands (16 by 26 mm) and the
umber of layers in which these stands are
installed,
Therefore the list given hereunder only
estas at °C
mentions the most common references, but
almost any other combination is possole,
upon specific requirement. Rope Lay cables
ate also available if necessary
