INTRO
Literary work has strong
relationship with the readers for having
important work in literary work
development because readers are
people who have the role in giving the
meaning and appraising literary work
itself. such as poem, novel and short
story. Short story belongs to prose
fiction, shorter in a form than novel.
Nurgiyantoro (1998:1) stated that it is
single directed in theme, plot, and
characters, to show unity.
This mini research will
discuss about female readers
responses on short story. Short story is
one of the results of literary works that
is formed in written text. I choose short
story entitled The little mermaid
because it has an interesting yet tragic
love story about sacrifice of a woman
to a man she loves. Based on the
phenomena above, I am interested in
conducting the females responses
approach research because I want to
know about each females pointview
about sacrificing love to the man they
love. There are also a lot of scholar and
critics who have been focused on HC
Andersens literary works that already
published, including The Little
Mermaid, but there is no submission I
found that do a research of the female
readers personal response about The
little mermaid of HC Andersens
version. The title of this research is

found that the story The Little
Mermaid reveals the analyze the
importance of water in literature
stressing on the aspect of water as a
symbol of sanctity, and they also
explored the parallelism between the
various worlds by making an attempt
to analyze the tale from a psycho-
analytical perspective.

study, in this paper, the Female
readers response of the short story
Child Hans Christian Andersens The
Little Mermaids is about knowing and
revealing the opinions or responses
from different readers towards Hans
Christian Andersens The Little
Mermaid and what are the most
common issues expressed by the
readers of The Little Mermaid.
METHOD
The technique of collecting data
The technique of collecting
data is as follows :The respondents
read the short story, The respondents
answer the questionnaire that has
given, The result of the questionnaire
is the responses.

data is analyzing the responses of the
audience that has been collected by
answering the questionnaires used as
the document which is the primary data
of the research.
This study is used
questionnaire. This technique used
considering it is suitable for the
purpose of this study which aimed to
explore how are the audience reponses
on cultural values that exist in The
Little Mermaid short story.
In order to find out what
opinions of the female readers are
towards The little mermaid based on
Reader-Response, I took 10 readers'
and they are :

reading this story? What do you think
about this story? What is the
interesting thing you found in this
story? If you are The Little Mermaid,
would you be willing to sacrifice your
life for a love of a prince? According
to you, is it better for The Little
Mermaid to kill the prince with the
sword or letting him be happy with her
wife?What is the lesson you learned
from this short story?
