alonganddifficultprocedure.Butseveraleasytestscanbemadetoshowifsomeoftheareasare
possiblesourcesofleakage.

ScheduledOilSampling,forthoseengineswhichhavethisservice,willtellifthereiscoolantinthe
lubricationsystem.

ForengineswhichdonothaveScheduledOilSampling,lookforindicationsofthisleakage.The
indicationsare...

1.Sludge(dirtanddebris)intheoilandoilfilter
2.Oilwhichhasamilky(white)color
3.Toomuchwatervaporfromthecrankcasebreatherand
4.Whitesmokefromtheexhaust.

Ifanyoftheaboveindicationsarepresent,takeasmallamountofoilforanalysis.

theradiator.Runa"bottletest"tocheckforcombustiongases,andhaveananalysismadeofthe
coolant.Instructionsforthe"bottletest"aregivenonpages14and15of"KnowYourCooling

2.Fromthehighpressureoilpassagesthatrunthroughthecoolantjacketsinthecylinderblock
andheads

5.Fromtheareasofthecylinderheadsaboveandneartheliners.

Next,starttheengineandletitgetwarmtoputpressureinthecoolingsystem.Shutdowntheengine,
draintheoilandremovetheoilpan.
