Presidents Message 10/19 - Sammy Kay

10/27 - Joint meeting with

Canton Rotary AT Canton"
Greetings, Massillon Rotarians!

Behind the scenes, we have so much happening, and I love Happy Birthday!
that we have so many ways of communicating. Thanks
George Elum
again to Bill Leffler for coordinating this newsletter.
October 07

I have another Save the Date for you. When District 2 Kim Schumacher
Rotary presidents met for breakfast last week, those October 22
attending decided that we would hold a joint event on the ____________________________
evening of Wednesday November 15 in recognition of
Rotary Foundation month.

The 1 + 1 event will celebrate Rotary International
Foundations 101st anniversary, showcase the work our
local clubs have accomplished utilizing donations from the
Foundation and recognize those who have donated at the
Paul Harris level and beyond. I think they are going to have
each club set up a table showcasing projects weve done in
the past with RI Foundation money, so Ill need help with
identifying that.

The club presidents from Jackson and Plain clubs are finalizing details including time,
location and cost, but I wanted to make sure you reserve the date.

Speaking of displays, hasnt Dan Swartz done a great job as Archivist putting together
the display case? He didnt know he was getting drug into this project, when he
expected to be going through old paperwork. I really appreciate his flexibility, since now
hes investigating corkboard to line the cabinet doors. Other duties as assigned, am I
right?

By now youve heard that our local Massillon Rotary Foundation has provided all the
funding for a backpack food program at Whittier and Gorrell schools (Franklin already
had such a program.) These programs send food home for the weekend with students
identified as being at risk for hunger. Children get free breakfast and lunch at school,
since our community is over a certain percentage of poverty, but there might not be
enough for the days they arent in school. Far from just being a throw money at the
problem event, this partnership will open up a service opportunity for club members to
help fill the backpacks.

And thats what its all about, getting to know each other better as we SERVE
together. Bless you all!
Sherie
