Section A. Define the following vocabulary words. (12 pts):

Spreadsheet program
A spreadsheet program is a program that lets you store, organize and analyze information.
Ribbon
The ribbon is the tool bar above the worksheet.
Name box
The name box shows you the location of the cell you pressed.
Formula bar
The formula bar is where you can enter, create, and delete data in a specific cell.
Column
A column is the group of cells that go from the top to the bottom. Columns are identified by
letters.
Row
A row is a group of cells that go from the left to the right. Rows are identified by numbers.

Section B. Explain how to do the following (6 pts):


1. Minimize and maximize the ribbon: To minimize the ribbon you would click the arrow in the
top right corner and do ctrl + F1. Then to maximize the ribbon you would press on a tab to make
it big again.
2. Work in Backstage view. Explain what you can do there: To get to the backstage you, you
have to press file tab on the ribbon then choose want you want to do. In the backstage view you
can save, open a file, print and share you documents.
3. Convert an older document to the Excel 2010 format: To convert an older document you have
to click on the file tab then find the convert command. Then select the location where you want
to save the document, and enter the name for your presentation, then save it. Then it will have
been converted to the newest file.

3. Critical thinking (6 pts):


1. Why would you not want to convert an old Excel document to the new 2010 format?
If you convert an older format to the newest you might lose some data on the worksheet or
changes of the original format.
2. What are the benefits of converting an older document to the newest format?
The benefits of converting an older document to the newest format is that you will get some of
the newest features, like commands and tabs.
